Solvonis - published its FY25 results and provided several strategic updates reflecting a busy period of development.
2025 was defined by the completion of the Awakn Life Sciences acquisition in May 2025 and the company’s rebranding to Solvonis, establishing a focused pipeline led by SVN-001, a Phase 3 programme in severe alcohol use disorder (AUD) in the UK and EU, and SVN-002, a US-focused Phase 2-planning programme in moderate-to-severe AUD via a 505(b)(2) pathway.
The company ended the year with £1.72 million in cash, expected to fund operations through to end of 2026.
Strategically, the board has concluded that greater shareholder value is likely to be achieved by advancing SVN-001 through completion of Phase 3 rather than pursuing an earlier licensing or partnering transaction, referencing an improved backdrop including the Otsuka-Transcend deal worth up to $1.225 billion and a White House executive order signed on 18 April 2026 aimed at accelerating regulatory review and patient access for psychedelic and rapid-acting CNS therapies in serious mental illness.
The board believes these developments are particularly relevant to companies with clinically advanced assets in neuropsychiatric settings.
On the intellectual property front, Solvonis was granted two US patents within a week in early April covering chemically distinct monoamine modulator compound series from its proprietary PTSD discovery programme, with protection running to 2043.
These composition-of-matter patents — regarded as the most commercially robust form of pharmaceutical IP — broaden the company’s protected chemistry estate around lead PTSD candidate SVN-114.
Separately, SVN-015, a novel serotonin and dopamine reuptake inhibitor, has been accepted into the US National Institute on Drug Abuse’s Addiction Treatment Discovery Program, under which NIDA will fund and conduct early preclinical evaluation at no cost to Solvonis.
To strengthen its US market positioning, the company has also appointed Water Tower Research to provide research coverage, refine its corporate profile and broaden institutional investor reach in what it regards as the most important capital markets arena for innovative CNS companies.
I very rarely cover biotechs as I believe the risk-reward profile is rarely favourable.
But here, it is.
The Phase 2 clinical trial results for the flagship were exceptional and what Solvonis has will eventually become standard of care in areas almost all of us have been affected by in some way or another - areas for which there are currently no good treatments.
