"Many companies need investment to make money and if you should only invest in companies that make money then they would never get off the ground."
Hate to be pedantic, but ALL companies need investment of some form to make money.
PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte, Clarks, John Lewis, Matalan, JCB, Arcadia, Specsavers all examples of private companies. Many of which have over 10,000 people working from them some of which generate billions in revenue a year. A private listing is not a precursor to success. Indeed many companies list on the aim because they are unable to obtain private investors. If your product is good enough you dont need a public listing, you can take the route of securing private investment.
I am NOT saying to never invest in companies unless they are making money. What I AM saying is just be mindful that you are investing in potential. GDR has a £60m market cap because it has new found potential for making millions on the back of coronavirus. Look at the market cap before the Coronavirus outbreak it was a few million pounds because there was not this great potential sitting in front of it. But to say its currently valued at £60m on anything other than potential seems folly.
