Eliminating meritocracy seems to be the order of the day and not just for Lloyds Bank.
When the requisite numbers of race, ethnicity and gender (or genders depending how many you believe there are) have been employed and promoted to their own level of incompetence and to the detriment of genuine more capable applicants. Then those who are really in charge will have an easier life, notwithstanding their own misgivings, but that's a different issue.
