RE: Isles of Scilly Steamship Co Ltd Interim Accounts 30.09.2328 Nov 2023 19:04
I can understand why some people may think this is an unnecessary distraction, given their complete lack of business experience. I would imagine that the complexity of running a multi million pound company, with its fingers in may pies, is frightening to someone from a simple supply supply clerk background.
Never the less , if HARL is successful in taking over the Scilly steam company , at a reasonable price, then it makes sense in many ways.
Firstly, if HARL doubled its bid and was successful , then it would still be getting assets worth twice that amount. Valuable assets such as cash and property , by the way. Increasing your investment by 100% in a single bid, is not to be sniffed at.
Secondly, with the Scilly company out of the way, the route would be open to receive £42 million of level up funding, which would be used to build the ferries. This would increase boths HARLs revenue and operating profits substantially.
Thirdly, the building of the ferries could be contracted to Appledore, . Further enhancing both local employment and goodwill.
Fourthly, the skills and experience gained from the ferry build, would put HARL in good stead to bid for similar contracts. Especially keeping in mind our recent Australian MOU. Perhaps people moaning about some of our yards lack of business, would rather they are built in Vietnam.
Taking everything in account, you would have to be a complete Eejit , not to be in favour of it.
