The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode with London Stock Exchange Group's Chris Mayo has just been released. Listen here.
He has to stay below 30% otherwise he has to buy the whole Company, he certainly wouldn't want to be in that position. Let's hope for some market normality today and a day where LSE doesn't have to turn off chat during trading hours...
There are a lot of questions that need answers before the vaccine can go live.
Firstly confirmation of the 90% effectiveness, this number was down to there being 8 more infection cases in the placebo group compared to the vaccinated group, the assumption is that the sample size was large enough for this to be statistically significant, the number could fall as a wider sample size throws up issues in different groups of patients.
Secondly, there is no indication of how long you are protected after vaccination.
Thirdly, the logistics of storage, transport and administration are significant because of the short life of the vaccine (pseudo virus) outside of -70/-80C.
Practically to vaccinate the population will take at least 12 months once the year picture of efficacy are known. During that time testing and isolation are the only viable ways to open the economy.
The overselling of covid stocks shows how much sentiment plays in the value of a share. DB's strategy to focus on countries outside of the UK may pay dividends in the long run, particularly countries with difficult infrastructures where testing may be here for many years to come and a simple all in one test will be key to providing test integrity.
There are a number of things here. Firstly this is a very specialised RNA vaccine. There have been no other RNA vaccines for human diseases. They require careful storage prior to use, it’s not a GP administered vaccine. Logistically it requires an infrastructure that doesn’t yet exist for mass vaccination. And then there’s the trial size and potential hazard of a vaccine that integrates its RNA into the human host muscle cells. Testing is here for a while longer!
This will balance back out. I think the drop as much about investors moving back into airlines as panicking they loose out in the stocks that will help the airlines. Vaccination 90% effective so far, resting of those until vaccination essential. Long term the effectiveness of this completely new class of RNA vaccines that have never been used for human vaccinations before... still a lot of unknowns.
They are legally obliged to tell the market of any material problems, they are not obliged to tell the market if the business is running to statements it's made. No news is no news. Sales will have happening, until EOYRs they are not obliged to say unless it creates a material change ie colossal single order out of line of expectation
is there any truth to the statement I've heard on other boards that institutional investors won't buy in the market if the market cap is below £50m? That says we need to rise a little more before they come in if that's indeed a true statement... that could easily happen over the coming days
