Robone as a clear vaccine sceptic can you please propose an alternative method to curtailing this pandemic?

This is the first time we have had vaccines and previously they have dragged on for 4 years minimum. Do you have an appetite for that scenario?

Ps now the vaccines are present they can be adapted much more quickly than the initial development, particularly so in the case of the mRNA based products.

Every single time a vaccinated person is infected with the virus there is an opportunity for an escape variant to be generated against the target of that particular vaccine. The risk is very very real

Assume £5 an antigen test and 3 tries £15 considerably cheaper and more accessible than PCR testing

Regulator that's particularly concerning hopefully most manufacturers in the future will still want to sell into the EU so we can at least fall back on reviewing EUDAMED entries before overspending on ****e products in an unregulated private healthcare system.

JAdam i know people who have heard such quotes as "we wont need to bother with that tendering process once we are outside of the EU" a couple of years ago. I thought at the time it was an over exaggeration but im starting to think we are seeing examples of this kind of thinking.

Being completely honest now I am struggling to see the utility of the ABC-19 test now.

I would hypothesise that presence of antibodies will not equate to new freedoms as we now are starting to see that variants of the virus can be carried and transmitted despite their presence. With ABC-19 we also have no idea of the strength of the immune response and I'm also not clear as to whether its possible to establish a threshold of immune response where we can gauge an individual as safe.

SARS-CoV-2 will eventually generate escape variants and is a very strong candidate for becoming endemic. It should eventually mutate to be less lethal as killing the host is not an evolutionary advantage.

At this point i see vaccination and antigen/pcr testing as the way forward for managing it for the next few years at least.

Consider that, like everyone, they have to go through Porton down approvals and potentially tech transfers (although the RNS did highlight an OEM agreement) before they can be tied to UK government use.

FYI Abbott now have CE marking for antigen self test . Seems like regulatory bodies are becoming more open to the concept.

As someone who has never been a fan of the conservatives and especially so of the current administration Javid strikes me as someone essentially competent which is more than can be said of the previous incumbent.

I do feel that in particular the health Secretary role would be better served by someone with boots on the ground healthcare experience but not so sure how often those sorts of people decide to enter the world of politics.

I read this update as tests being sold privately rather than government purchased to be honest I qouldnt be surprised of the strategy is to run down the innova stockpile from the public purse and then transfer the cost of testing to the individual once exhausted (who can then purchase whichever test they wish)

Look at the positive test rate versus the hospitalisation rate and compare the same data to earlier in the pandemic.

Also look at the demographics of who is testing positive now compared to the demographics of who has been vaccinated

And then tell me how vaccination doesn't work.

I get why the speed of development makes people skittish but the vax have been based upon years of underlying work and the companies who developed them have never had such a unifying principle to throw huge amounts of their scientific resources at before. If MHRA and FDA are happy so am I.

Dude was 86 and so likely immunosuppressed to some degree. Antibodies from either infection or vaccine don't mean a patient cant acquire an infection, the purpose is to massively enhance the individuals ability to suppress and eventually eliminate the virus without hospitalisation.
