While chief financial officer William Jellison said it is only a mid-sized acquisition, Sultan gives Dentsply an opening into the infection control segment of the dental industry. "That's one of two important areas we've said we've been interested in getting into," Jellison said. The other area is diagnostics. Sultan's product line also rounds out the company's offerings in preventive care consumables in the dental industry, Jellison said. The privately held Sultan employs about 120 people in Englewood, where it had just built a new manufacturing facility. Sultan manufactures about one-third of the products it owns, and the rest are made externally. Jellison said that would likely change. "We would likely do some more of that manufacturing internally, probably at the Englewood site or one of our other sites," he said, explaining there is a cost saving in doing that.
