"With regard to the Port of East London, he said R2.4 billion would be invested over the next seven years that would see the capacity of the containers terminal expanded as well as the construction of a new coal export terminal. Morwe said the "fully enclosed" facility would be able to handle two million tonnes a year by 2017/18. No date has yet been set for the first shipment of coal from the Elitheni Mine out of East London as a result of delays caused by problems with the washing plant. In a recent statement, Strategic Natural Resources, the major share-holder in the mine, said new export dates were currently being negotiated. Earlier, Transnet Port Terminals CEO Karl Socikwa said that the coal terminal would cost R300 million. Good results will be needed to be seen sooner than later as we should have the 2014 general elections to be in our favour. This will look good on the ANC. According to the Constitution of South Africa elections must occur in April–July 2014.

The first load to leave PEL.......its revenue would be much appreciated by all I'm sure.......but it's short term problems takes a back seat to "The Plan".......:-)

The "Plan is" for Elitheni Coal and the IPP to be in the Chris Hani Special Economic Zone. I believe the SEZ, Branch line and the IPP will be settled by year end 2013 or early 2014. I also believe there are large companies out there looking at us and the tax breaks etc. that we will be offering through the SEZ in the future. We should know more about this in the next 5 weeks. I also believe the "Big Picture" for us in the Chris Hani District Municipality has already been road mapped by the SA Gov.

Through strong links with established local and international agro-industrial firms, we will facilitate increased investment in processing facilities, and create secure market opportunities for small-scale primary producers across the grain, livestock, fruit, biofuel, and timber value chains. Our partnership with the Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform and the newly established Rural Development Agency will assist us to package projects and leverage investment. Something very exciting to think about.......:-) First of all I could only find this article on the Investment Summit but it wasn't the BEE that caught my eye : "Chris Hani District municipality has been earmarked as the fourth Special Economic Zone in the Eastern Cape." http://getectoday.co.za/news/bee-under-fire/ Chris Hani is one of five municipalities classified as the "The Wild Coast" (Transkei). One of 10 SEZ earmarked: Eastern Cape-Wild Coast: agro-processing and tourism This has a long road to travel! I can't see why any type of company wouldn't fall under a SEZ jurisdiction though the Wild Coast is earmarked for agro-processing and tourism. I figure the only thing they will be able to offer us next week is an ETA on the first load out of PEL.......and that's only if they have the mine running properly. Nothing else will have been resolved and I wouldn't expected anything else to be sorted starting the end of July.

"BKCOB Infrastructure Committee visits EL Coal Terminal" The Border-Kei Chamber of Business (BKCOB) Infrastructure Committee was invited to visit the new coal/skiptainer facility situated within the container terminal at the East London Port on 12 April 2013 by Transnet Port Terminals’ Terminal Manager, Khethokuhle Nyawose and his management team. The committee was taken on a guided tour of the port and the coal facility, where the coal mined in Indwe by Elitheni Coal will be transported to and exported via skiptainer solution. The R70 million mobile harbour crane recently procured and commissioned was also demonstrated in action.
