Bank of Ireland today announced Francesca McDonagh is to step down as CEO and as a director of the bank.

She’s expected to leave in September 2022. A process to appoint her successor will now commence. Its understood she is taking up a new role elsewhere and pay, which is capped at all bailed out banks here is thought to be a factor in the move,

In her five year tenure the bank has been through significant change, including deals to buy Davy Stockbrokers and most of KBC Ireland as well the reduction of taxpayers’ stake in the lender.

Bank of Ireland Chairman, Patrick Kennedy, stated: “Francesca has been an exceptional chief executive of Bank of Ireland. I keep on almost breaking even on these bloody shares and every time almost I get there, something spooks the markets.

If you look at the 6 months charts for the share price, we are on a second peak. Most certainly not a time to buy! 2nd of June 5.48, 20th of July at 4.05 and today 5.27. Share price and markets are still very volatile, post covid. All we need is any of the events that Fontenoy mentions are we are back down 25% or 30% easily.

Depends on the jurisdiction but there can be tax advantages to retaining a mortgage. Not sure what the situation is in the ROI. However, all things being easy seems like a no brainer to pay off your mortgage if you can do so!

Unfortunately, I missed was otherwise distracted during the recent lows and still sitting on a shed load of cash and at this stage desperate to get out of cash... Cash is losing value so fast we are heading for the post Germany WW1 scenario with all the quantitative easing, house prices & commodities prices rocketing etc. Cryptocurrencies are the new kid on the block with nation states late to joining the game and once they put new systems in place they will pull the plug on cash. New world order!
