AFTER PRESSURE FROM LENDERS, BOOHOO FORCED TO CLOSE ITS BURNLEY DISTRIBUTION CENTRE
====================================================================================
After pressure from its Lenders and set against a backdrop of falling sales and huge financial losses, loss making clothes retailer Boohoo PLC looks set to close its massive distribution centre on the Heasandford Industrial Estate, in Burnley.
Last week, Boohoo's warehouse workers, order pickers and admin staff based in Burnley were all warned about the closure plan and instructed not to discuss it publicly, for fear of further destabilising the Boohoo share price, which is now down by more than 90% since 2019.
Only last year Boohoo was forced to close its warehouse in Crick, Northamptonshire and its U.S. distribution centre in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
Closing the much maligned Burnley warehouse facility, synonymous for its previous pest control and vermin infestation problems comes on the back of a rapid onslaught from Chinese fast fashion rivals SHEIN and TEMU.
SHEIN and TEMU have both pioneered a new approach to fast fashion by fulfilling and then shipping orders from Chinese manufacturers direct to customers homes and by doing this SHEIN and TEMU escape UK import duties because individual garments typically fall well below the threshold at which import duties are levied.
Is Boohoo PLC in big trouble ?? - the simple answer is YES, very much so.
