According to the NIH’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), AZD1656 has been studied alone and in combination with other blood glucose control agents in diabetic patients. Three Phase IIa studies have been conducted up to 90 mg BID for 28 days (monotherapy, add-on to metformin, add-on to insulin) and two Phase 2b trials of four months duration. AZD1656 has been demonstrated to effectively lower blood glucose levels in human trials.

P.S ARCADIA is not the first phase ii trial of AZD1656 so there's tonnes of data to back it up.

At the moment would be a cheap over the counter/GP prescribed tablet treatment. AZD1656 looks to tick that box. Not just for diabetics but for the masses! If it works it's huge and the race is on, I can't see a deal happening fast here! GLA Winter Flu/Covid season rapidly approaching and global Governments will want to avoid lockdowns any way they can! Covid is costing trillions globally so an effective treatment is worth billions of £'s.

Because SGS hold AZD1656 from which they will make a sheet tonne of money from. They have no long term need for their Vela shares.
I love that no mention is made of selling the drug but rather commercialiation is the now only route mentioned! Meaning upfront payment and annual recurring sales revenue! 8% to Vela.
SGS will no doubt relinquish a % of their holding in AZD1656 to Astra et Al, but the potential annual revenue could be quiet staggering! GLA
