I'll be very honest, I didn't do it for the money. But I simply cannot understand people who say MPs are underpaid. They are very privileged to get VERY well paid for service to their country. People who say otherwise live in a different world to a large majority of the Country.
As for the HOL ... that's another racket altogether (I know several of them). People like "Two Jags" took it for all they could snort. You get a daily allowance for turning up and signing the register. And with the pandemic, "turning up" has meant logging into Zoom for a couple of minutes. I haven't kept up to speed with all this, but didn't they accept a pay rise a few months ago?
LTI... I did. Try for it, I mean. Came second to the Tory (ahead of Labour, UKIP, and the Greens) unfortunately. The Greens stood for the first time and took a chunk of our votes. An eye opener. They lied through their teeth.
But 4 times average salary. Plus the same again in Office expenses. Plus the Lonon residences if their Constituency is further away. Plus personal expenses (remember the scandal of duck ponds and groceries being charged?). Plus taxi fares etc.
Hehehe... nice one. I had to google the second language. :-)
Out of interest Falky, what are your first two languages? I'm assuming from your pseodonym (Falklands?) It's Spanish and perhaps Portuguese?
Nice one hardup. I agree entirely. After selling Barclays, I've still got 3 'imaginary' Bank stocks (Lloyds, Stanchart and HSBC) in my 'fantasy' portfolio. The latter two are up over 2% in Hongkong this morning.
Others in my 'fantasy' include the major Oils, a couple of Miners (I like Centamin, as a no-debt Gold miner hedge, Egypt risk) and a couple of the Tobaccos (for their stonking yield). They should all be a hedge against Inflation.
Not going to win any "Mr. ESG of the Year" Awards, but the 'fantasy' portfolio is up 4% so far in Jan.
Thanks Lokiloo. Very good.
Pantherax, putting it very simply (I studied all this for my Securities Exams) a UT is simply the price at which all the entered sales and buys on the SETS system are matched up. The price at which the max number match up is the UT price. For Example:
@ 51p Buys 50 Sells 100 = matched 50
@ 51.5p Buys 75 Sells 75 = matched 75
@ 52p Buys 120 Sells 120 = matched 120
@ 52.5p Buys 130 Sells 90 = matched 90
Makes 52p the UT price.
briall - "lloyds has for years ignored its private investors so do not and i repeat do not expect any special or much increased dividend"
It really matters not if Capital is returned as a Divi or a Share Buyback. In fact the latter is more tax efficient. (No witholding tax followed, perhaps, by a personal tax).
No I meant "unknown" (to us) but "known" (to Management).. :-)
Interest Rates going up is a 'known known'. Is there a 'known unknown' or an 'unknown known' in the works?
When are the next trading statements/ divi announcements/ quarterly etc announcements please?
As for 60p or any other 'finger in the air' figure, is anyone's guess. What is more interesting is the 'fair value'. Whenever that is reached. That's around 75p.
Lloy is just shy of 2% up this morning.
Any ideas as to anything afoot? Any announcements in the works?
By the way, my BB was meant to be Bulletin Board, rather than Banbury!
Ok thanks Banbury. My question was crudely worded, but was not intended as a personal criticism of anyone.
You've summarised it well.
Any reason we fixate on Cruises on this BB?
Or a proper education... MVankaway.
MVankaway... "Why do we not see these hardworking immigrants actually doing any hard work, or is driving a van or a mini cab considered hard manual labour these days."
Could it be because they are not officially permitted to work? But don't worry, they're doing it anyway... and getting paid in cash. They'll leave it to you to pay the taxes out of your Benefits for their houses and free NHS treatments.
Hehehe.... Isn't life fun? :-)
Do we know why? Nikkei and HangSeng down over 2.5%. FTSE futures even worse.
Go easy on the jungle juice, Sheltie....
The SAG Director Deals icon has a £1mn 'sell'. So I guess that evens out to zero? :-)
