A three-day training on virtual reality (VR) simulation for cataract surgery has commenced at the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) in Mohakhali. The Hospital-Based Training (HBT) programme, launched by Orbis International in collaboration with BCPS, is being conducted at the institution's Ophthalmology Skill Lab.

Vincent Berthon of Fundamental XR (FVRVS Limited), United Kingdom, a global expert in VR-based surgical training, is leading the sessions. The training brings together ophthalmologists, residents, and faculty from Bangladesh Eye Hospital, Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex (CEITC), and Isphahani Islamia Eye Hospital. Participants will subsequently train additional eye care professionals across Bangladesh.

Professor Dr Mohammod Shahidullah, President of BCPS, said the initiative would allow ophthalmologists and allied professionals to develop surgical competency in a safe environment, benefiting millions of patients nationwide. Dr Munir Ahmed, Country Director of Orbis International, highlighted that simulation-based training significantly reduces early-career surgical complications and strengthens human resource capacity through apex institutions like BCPS.

Vincent Berthon noted that the FVR Simulation system enables trainees to practise cataract surgery techniques, complication management, and instrument handling using lifelike virtual eyes, building confidence before live procedures.

The training system, donated by Orbis International, follows its initial use in the Flying Eye Hospital Training Project in Chattogram in November 2024. The FVR Simulation Machine at BCPS is the second of its kind in Bangladesh, with a third unit scheduled for installation at Isphahani Islamia Eye Hospital in Dhaka.

Distinguished attendees at the inaugural ceremony included Prof Dr Ashraf Sayeed, Joint Secretary of Faculty of Ophthalmology; Professor (Brig Gen) Md Aminul Islam Sikder, Director Administration; and Prof Dr Jalal Ahmed, former Chairman of Faculty of Ophthalmology at BCPS.

Haleon have never referenced Eroxon directly in any of their results RNS or Presentations, so there is nothing to be inferred there.

I'm assuming that Eroxon will sit under the Therapeutic Skin Health & Other category in their reporting structure.

This category has been under pressure in recent Quarters due to the diversification of Chapstick

Sure Ventures PLC on Friday reported a ‘remarkable turnaround’ during its most recent financial year, as it swung to profit following two exits from its Fund I portfolio.

The venture capital fund backing early-stage artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, and internet of things companies said net asset value per share at March 31 was 175.79 pence, more than doubled from 82.53p a year earlier.

NAV total return was 113% against a negative 31.25% a year prior.

It swung to pretax profit of £7.4 million from a £2.5 million loss the year before, as total net income increased to £8.0 million from a £2.1 million loss.

This was primarily driven by ‘two key exits’ from the Fund I portfolio, Sure Ventures said.

In July 2024, Infinite Reality bought Landvault, in which Fund I held a 7.1% stake. The takeover deal, valued at $450 million, delivered an around 10x return on Fund I’s original investment.

In addition, in March this year, Getvisibility was acquired by Forcepoint in a deal that returned around 4.5x of Sure Venture’s total investment. This generated £1.5 million in net proceeds upon completion of the sale in April.

Total operating expenses increased 21% to £524,534 from £434,586.

‘Investment in AI is expected to command around 40% of all venture capital funding in 2025, with a global annual investment estimated to exceed $100 billion. AI remains the dominant force among investment themes. The company is well placed to capitalise on its early-mover advantage in this sector and benefit from the solid reputation of the AIFM in building out the Fund II portfolio and extracting value from the remaining Fund I investments,’ said Chair Perry Wilson.

‘Despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainty and the potential for market volatility, the company remains confident that its high-tech AI-focused portfolio will deliver long-term value. The company is working actively toward additional liquidity events from Fund I, and subject to positive outcomes, it expects to consider a special dividend as a reward to shareholders for their continued support and patience.’

The company declared no dividend for financial 2025, unchanged from the year before as ‘the company’s strategy is focused on capital growth rather than income’.

Shares in Sure Ventures were down 3.0% at 80.00 pence in London on Friday afternoon. The stock is down 17% over the past year.

They knew the resolution would not get passed, but worth a try on their part. Having gone through the dilution at Wyld, you would expect that the BoD would know how it feels to be a shareholder in the company.

We have to wait and see what direction the new Chair takes the company in.

At the Company's Annual General Meeting ("AGM") held earlier today resolutions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 were passed on a poll. Resolution 6 was not passed.

Following resolution 6 not being passed, the Directors do not currently have the authority to issue new ordinary shares for cash disapplying statutory pre-emption rights, although the Directors would have the authority to issue shares on a pre-emptive basis pursuant to the authority granted under resolution 5. The Board will consider the outcome of voting on resolution 6, in light of the 'Background and reasons for the Resolutions' set out in the Company's announcement of 6 June 2025.

Given that FUM are still awaiting a partner in China, I thought this was worth sharing........

Haleon plc today announces that it has completed the acquisition of the remaining 12% equity interest in Tianjin TSKF Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd, its OTC joint venture in China for a total consideration of RMB 1,623 million (c. £0.2 billion). As a result, TSKF is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Haleon.

China is a key market for Haleon which is underpinned by favourable structural drivers. The acquisition of TSKF which has a long heritage of operational excellence will enable Haleon to drive category growth in one of the fastest growing OTC markets globally. TSKF accounted for c. 40% of Haleon's China revenues in 2024 and manufactures and/or distributes leading brands such as Fenbid, Voltaren and Bactroban. This acquisition will deliver increased strategic, and operational flexibility, and is fully consistent with our capital allocation priorities to drive attractive returns for shareholders and maintain a strong investment grade balance sheet.

Neither RNS would be particularly difficult or take that much time to write, so why is the company choosing to remain silent when they have a history of releasing trading statements & voting results on the day of the AGM

It does make me suspect that there is extraordinary activity going on. Is there something going on that they were planning to release but unable to get 'signed off' ? Pure speculation on my part. Not a good look for the BoD (again). It will all come out in the wash though.
