Thus, Hydrogen seems only to be an option for long-haul on-route re-fuelling where adequate renewable energy is available. BEVs would have more difficulty with the long-haul duty cycle if sufficient on-route clean power was more expensive.

Summary:
Hydrogen is a highly attractive, but also highly explosive energy carrier, which requires safe, lightweight and cheap storage as well as transportation systems. Scientists have now developed a chemical storage system based on simple and abundant organic compounds. The liquid hydrogen carrier system has a high theoretical capacity and uses the same catalyst for the charging-discharging reaction.

Heavy Fuel Oil Market to Witness Exponential Rise:-
“The heavy fuel oil market is expected to create substantial opportunities in the market in the coming future. There are several factors responsible for the growth of the heavy fuel oil market, such as reduced emission, safety concerns related to the environment and demand for reduced transportation cost. The key driver for the Heavy Fuel Oil Market which is the addition of new and innovative products which are energy efficient, of high quality and provide flexible solutions with advanced technologies”

Isn’t it odd IMO mandate switching from one polluting fuel to another. Surely exhaust gas treatment should have been the primary goal. Motor vehicles are equipped with exhaust abatement equipment so why have ships not been controlled. Have they got this all wrong?
I see from this article The Middle East are going for carbon capture from motor vehicles, interested to see how that works out:-
But diesel has proven a key cause of health-threatening nitrogen oxide pollution, which is blamed for respiratory diseases, forcing the industry to explore ways to cut emissions.

A two-year scientific wash-water study conducted based on Carnival Corporation’s cruise ships have shown that the use of scrubbers are a safe and effective means of compliance with the IMO 2020 sulphur cap requirements.

“From 2018-21, BloombergNEF expect high-sulfur marine fuel oil consumption to fall by almost two thirds. In its place, consumption of ULSFO and MGO is set to increase by 2.3Mbd. We expect this to increase demand for middle distillates, which will be supportive of crude prices over the next 2-5 years.
Most ship-owners have so far steered away from installing scrubbers, favoring low-sulfur fuel to comply with the 2020 mandate. This will likely lead to higher fuel prices and increased scrutiny from ship-owners of the fuel efficiency of their vessels. Ships that are more expensive to operate and are at an economic disadvantage could make their way to the breakers yard, in turn supporting shipping rates.”

“One of the main objectives of the project is to provide both the State of California and commercial enterprise with performance data in order to assess the overall benefit of the operation of hydrogen powered trucks under real-world conditions. OneH2 is confident that with scale, hydrogen fuel can challenge diesel under a true operating cost scenario. It is expected that this data will provide on-road heavy truck fleet managers with a clear pathway to switch to zero-emission hydrogen fuel without compromising day to day operating costs.”
