Sodium Ion batterys have half the energy density of conventional Lithium Ion batteries in both weight and volume terms. They also don't currently compete with the number of discharge cycles compared with Lithium batteries, so their lifecycle is shorter, which will effectively increase the lifecycle costs. They will NEVER compete with Lithium in the transport industry. Especially when solid state battery technology is cracked. The transport needs for lithium will be so great that even if Sodium took over stationary energy storage it's not going to stop the growth of lithium ion battery industry in any significant manner.
And FYI, battery storage doesnt actually provide electricity to the grid, it's just for frequency regulation and stability. Home energy storage is used for providing electricity and I don't know about you, but I'd rather have the battery that uses half the space in my garage......
