I agree with you 100% it is a disgraceful practice, and if you recall Tesco used this some years ago to inflate their profits, and it was costly for investors.
My Father was in retail many years ago, and even 60 years ago it was common practice for premier retailers like Harrods, to demand advance payments to even stock certain companies products, and larger payments to place the goods in their windows.
I bet this still goes on these days, as they use their mussle to blackmail suppliers that is then paid for by the smaller retailers, who pay higher prices for the branded goods.
