There's a new document from Boral today:

It's been provoked by a take-over bid, but contains a mass of info on fly ash.

Some of it is what we already knew regarding their recent fly ash strategy review, but there's new stuff including detailed DCF calculations. What struck me most (and assuming I've understood it correctly) is that they've used a DCF discount rate of 8-8.5% (equating to PE ~12) which is much better than I'd have expected. (Previously I've seen suggestions of 20% i.e. PE ~5).

A few other random notes, after a first speed-read:

1. There are hints that they might actually be selling off the North America fly ash business.

2. Kirkland is due to be completed in late 2021. Target is 500ktpa.

3. Fly ash price estimated to rise by 5%pa (base case) up to 8%pa ("upside scenario", though this is actually the current rate).

4. Historically, fly ash was cheaper than cement, but the gap has narrowed and "in California (which has virtually no local supply), the fly ash price now exceeds the cement price".

Hate to disappoint, but when there are two identical sized trades in rapid succession, it usually just means someone moving shares "sideways", e.g. from one account to another, or a spreadbet rollover.

BTW It's slightly confusing, because the linkedin entry for 3-D says it is "Privately Held". However, according to this :

1investor, great that someone is doing detailed calculations, and I really hope you're right, but it does sound slightly on the optimistic side to me. Have you looked at the Boral/Kirkland deal at all? It may be comparable, though the pozz/perl economics have certainly moved in our favour since that deal.

In case people aren't familiar with it, I'll bump the old thread...

I'm also thinking a sale of CS (+NE+NewPerl+Jackson) is the most likely outcome.

So why no more drilling in the NE zone? Well, from a purely technical valuation perspective it would add very little value, because we already have a 27 year mine plan - the DCF calculation would discount it massively because it's so far into the future.

I think they'll still want it included in the deal though, and NewPerl and the rest, just so it doesn't end up with a competitor. I wonder if they'll even tell PC he's not allowed to go out and find more!

It will probably be more than a month. On 24th we were told that the concrete pours were "currently being organised". There will subsequently need to be some sort of strength test, which I believe is typically after 28 days curing. So my guess would be more like a couple of months.

Of course the deal may already have been agreed, subject to the above going through without problems.
