Businessman Kostiantyn Zhevago believes that the sanctions imposed by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on February 12 are illegal and unfounded.
He said this in a video message published on Thursday evening on the Espresso TV channel, LIGA.net reports.
"This is another episode of persecution of me by Ukrainian President Zelensky. There is not a single court decision against me related to the threat to national security, territorial integrity and sovereignty.
It turns out that there are no grounds for opening a criminal case against me for threatening national security, but there are grounds for sanctions for this. Well, this is absurd," he said.
Zhevago said that he actively supports the Armed Forces of Ukraine and is under Russian sanctions. Therefore, there are no grounds to accuse him of activities in favor of Russia.
The businessman also assured that AvtoKrAZ did not export trucks to Russia, because the company is also under sanctions in Russia.
"I am also accused of allegedly cooperating with Russians by the Ferrexpo group of companies, where my family and I are shareholders.
This is absolutely untrue. Ferrexpo is the only public company with assets in Ukraine, in which the owners have invested billions of US dollars and whose shares are traded on the main market of the London Stock Exchange, and which is part of the FTSE 250 index. Its shareholders are not some anonymous Russians, but respected global investment and sovereign funds, in particular the Norwegian Sovereign Fund, BlackRock and UBS, as well as thousands of citizens of the USA, EU and Great Britain.
Accusing the company of threatening national security is essentially equivalent to accusing these global giants of terrorism as well. Everyone should be asking why sanctions are being imposed against me, but not against these international giants, who are the same shareholders as me? Why such double standards? Of course, this is more of a PR issue, and "It is not a question of the rule of law," Zhevago said.
He believes that the sanctions are persecution for his political and civil position and warned that because of this, Ukraine may be denied European integration.
"In Ukraine, the rule of law is an obstacle to the authoritarian tendencies of the government. But the EU does not accept authoritarian countries," the businessman said.
