We can be certain that no well test has taken place at the Garden Hill South well pad in Western Newfoundland this year, nor is any commercial production imminent. This opinion is based upon today’s reply to an email enquiry to the Director of Petroleum Engineering in St John’s NL, the interview content with Mick Hibbert and the Chairman’s statement on August 7th.

To quote the official source: “The operational status of the re-entry program remains as wireline intervention operations.”

If the well were ready for testing or production, the well status would have changed from intervention operations to completed, and it hasn’t (Ref: DNR explanation of categories). There is a requirement for weekly reporting, so things must have stalled.

I don’t this will surprise anyone, but it puts the record straight. The notion that “GH news might drop anytime” is no longer credible.

The weekly onshore reports for petroleum activities in the Province are updated every week based on the daily or weekly operations reports received from the operator.

As per the “release of information” limitations found in subsection 154 (2) of the Petroleum Drilling Regulations the Department of Natural Resources can only confirm that the operational status of the re-entry program remains as wireline intervention operations. The Noble exploration VP who took the decisions has resigned; the in country manager has retired, and there was no hope of fulfilling the licence obligation. Hardly surprising that the exploration team at Noble has moved focus to the northern hemisphere.

As to why anyone would go to the trouble, well, that is what we want to know isn't it?

While we are about research, I have reason to believe the OSX 3 marketing fact sheet supposedly put out by OSX 3 Leasing BV in Zwoll NL is in fact a fake, as is the originating website.

There is a strong possibility of revealing an asset impairment of the Solan production facilities in the PMO trading update IMO. That would damage their balance sheet, making a FID for Sea Lion more distant. And the bank creditors have final say on the FID anyway. Don't hold your breath............

Dear Mr Corkey

The weekly onshore reports for petroleum activities in the Province have shown the same status of Permit PL-2002-01(A) since June 2017. The statement “Well Intervention Operations” by Enegi Inc and PVF at well PAP 1 side-track 3 has never been updated despite a reported DNR approval of a production test at that location and unverified reports of oil being recovered to surface.

Can you please advise whether there is nothing/anything to update, or that a production test is underway, or the operator has or has not updated you on any of this?

Is the status of that well eligible for a freedom of information request as to reports you have on file?

Who in their right mind buys a new car anymore? Personal car leasing is the modern approach. Just pay the monthly depreciation via the lease and leave the second hand value risk with the car dealer.

One must assume that Noble/ENI asked about a licence extension and the answer they received led them to conclude that licence obligations could not be met. Hence the relinquishment and the hot potato was handed back to Argos.

There will be no drilling rig for Sea Lion until 2021 to help out. Any thing is of course possible, but the last thing the Falklands needs right now is more exploration. Someone needs to prove that the existing discoveries can be successfully developed.

A one well drilling rig assignment to explore Rhea in 2019 seems beyond reason.
