The FT in the last line of the article finally asking a question that we have been asking for many months / years!!!

Looking at the article that I posted yesterday it looks like it’s just a view of an individual, so probably should not read too much into it ….

From reports that have come from the BNP themselves in other articles, I’m not even sure that they will be taking place in the elections and therefore still expect AL /Hasina to stay in power …. Right now imo, I don’t see that as a negative because I feel that after the elections Hasina will have no choice other than to change her stance on OPM because of not only the energy situation, but also because of the state of the country’s finances….

Exploring alternative coal mining options

When contacted, Zanendra Nath Sarker, chairman of Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla), the owning company of the coal mine, expressed concern and stated that Petrobangla is exploring options to ensure continuous coal production.

"We have two coal mines near the existing one – Phulbari and Dighipara coalfields in Nawabganj -- as options in our planning. We can proceed with one of these if we get approval from the highest level, though these mines are at very preliminary stages," he said.

However, the government is taking time because developing another mine will require land acquisition, which is a very sensitive decision as the land in that area is very fertile and people's livelihoods are also linked with it.

"We will have to balance all these factors. This is also an election year, so no sudden decisions will be made," added Zanendra Nath Sarker.

Just a thought, but as stated in the interim report there is always the availability of the 300k loan facility from Polo that GCM could draw down on rather than having another placing......
