Another incentive for Hasina to make the right decision!! - From Pappi's post ...

Of the five coal mines discovered in Bangladesh, only one is extracted from Barapukuria. Since 2005, coal has been extracted on a commercial basis in the underground system. The Barapukuria coal mine has 410 million tonnes of coal reserves. Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited (BCMCL) has no approved plan to extract coal after 2027.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told BBC Bangla that if the decision to extract coal is not taken, there is a possibility of the closure of the 500 MW coal-based power plant in Barapukuria.

Here is a much better more realistic report of the article posted yesterday, (the paper that posted the article yesterday, has always been slightly negative to OPM at Phulbari, so that is probably why it was written in the style that it was) Moral of the story, is don't always believe what you read in the press lol

Therefore, demand for uninterrupted coal supply will be increasing further and import dependence on coal supply will expose the country's energy sector to manifold difficulties and challenges. Just thought I’d comment on the article from yesterday before heading off for a weekend away…

I am sorry if I am repeating what may have already been said, but was away yesterday…

Who’s to say that they won’t mine Dighipara, they probably will in time, as they will with all the other mines they have discovered, BUT that does not mean Phulbari won’t happen very soon as well, in fact it has made it even more positive in my mind that Phulbari will happen!!

To me, and it may be a bit of a simplistic way of looking at it, but even if they gave the go ahead for Dighipara, and worked miracles (in Bangla time) to completed all the feasibility studies etc needed in mega quick time, that would mean that Dighipare MAY dig first coal in 2032….

That means that with Bara stopping mining in 2027, the government would not only have to carry on importing coal to supply the existing coal plants until then, they would also be adding to their import bill to supply Bara as well, and imo, they can’t continue to afford what they are importing at the moment, never mind adding to the bill….

Looks like with the tragic story of the coal ship being hijacked along with it being Ramadan other news is very thin on the ground at the moment, but it should not be too long now before the dd has been completed with the NEDs and NEC and we are updated with who has taken the positions … Obviously as has been previously mentioned on the AGM report one of the candidates was actually at the AGM and was a great candidate of a very high standard, so hopefully he is one of the ones who has taken the positions and the others are of the same calibre!

With a 9p finish some great consolidation by the MMs today and with about 5.8 million traded again without any delayed trades later, someone has tucked a few more away to put in safe hands ..... the free flow is getting smaller and smaller ;)

Stokes1610, I don't think so, it was said at the AGM when the question was raised, that it will probably be in the Bangla press first before we will get an RNS, because it will want to be Hasina and her ministers who will want to announce it first .....

Mankiniparty, totally agree with you and Aham87, yesterday we had 5.95 Million traded all day, and so far today we have already had over 3.5 million traded, that in its self tells its own story imo ..
