Nasir Arif Mahmud, a former additional secretary of the ministry of shipping and then member-secretary of Deep Sea Port Proposal Evaluation Committee under the Prime Minister's Office, told the FE presently only coal-and stone-carrying vessels anchor at the port.

"It is a non-feasible port," he said, adding that DP World and Adani Group were requested to invest in Payra Port but they did not agree to do so since there is little chance of making profit by operating the port there.

Mr Mahmud pointed out that no techno-economic feasibility study had been conducted before site selection of Payra Port though it is "a must to know whether the port will be financially viable or not".

Just thinking further on this point of what PM Hasina has said in parliament today, lets also not be under any illusion, that she would of also 100% imo known that her Energy Advisor Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, and her Energy Minister Nasrul Hamid were going to make the statement that they did today!!!

Sooo now PM Hasina is starting to have to defend her energy polices in parliament ….

I wonder how long it will be before she mentions Phulbari and open pit mining as well as well as the other areas that are able to be mined in the future to help resolve the country’s future energy problems!

Chowdhury urged the scientists for making recommendations based on knowledge and information for taking necessary measures.
