Hi max the host of the interview starts off explaining the town of roddickton was a thriving logging community for decades but recently the towns works have been struggling to get by, they all got excited about the new plans of AEG which started last year. sheila (mayor of roddickton) mentions about a letter that she sent (and other parties involves like loggers Association etc) about the process on the AEG crown forest lisence. There was contracts having machines nkt being used and people asking about future of the roddickton and surrounds areas. If it was a case to sell old machinery or start to look to the future and upgrade the old machinery for the new lofe AEG will give to the community.
Sheila managed to get a meeting last with the minstery's office officals and explains that a lot of people was sitting in the meeting like representatives from Roddickton council, Joint council(to cover whole northern peninsula), loggers association, local forestry contractors, and 4 levels of government officals- district manager, regional director, pennisula director and assistant depty minister.
What sheila took out from the meeting was that it still isnt a done deal yet but government says looks favourable. When pushed to ask when the deal will be finalised the officals said they couldnt give timeframe. Asked if it could be days... weeks.. years but again no dates given, only a vage statement saying theyre almost there.
Shiela then explains the impact on the region when the deal lands and will turn the whole dying trade around. And saying no to AEG would have a devastating effect on the region.
In my opinion its already a done deal and just waiting on the government sign off... how long will that be? I have no idea but hopefully will be within next few months!
