Volumes aren't particularly up on previous days so I suspect the price move is entirely gold price related rather than any leak of news

An an aside. I wonder how important (reflected by a higher or lower price) previous metals will become (gold, silver, plat etc) when western governments abolish cash, which they will, eventually as we move away from libertarian-ism towards a more authoritarian political environment. If cash is eventually abolished, I believe we will see a rise in barter for obvious reasons and gold and silver could become even more important

Lpad - I believe Newcrest will want full access (100%) to the whole of Havieron. This would give them full leverage-exposure to the NG nature of Havieron assuming they can extract full value from the Telfer-Havieron mixed ore

Oh definitely. The planets are indeed aligning. I reckon Newcrest have dropped a right ******* on their hedging program though I appreciate we can't 'read' the future but even so their hedging has cost them well over $375m revenues...

A portion of Telfer's gold production is hedged at lower prices than we see today. That means today Telfer would be far more commercial without this debilitating hedge. With this hedge extending until 2023 this translates into a hefty loss of income as their sales are at the hedged price and not at the current AUS$ price. No wonder Newcrest are desperate to get Havieron up and running to compensate the low grade nature and hedged production from Telfer....

the commercial integrity of Telfer is almost compromised...Biswas is desperate for a solution to the Telfer problem and GGP have it...that desperation should translate into a higher price for our 30%

If Havieron is as large as some are saying then its importance is not just to Telfer but to Newcrest as a whole...

Telfer is a separate profit centre. Havieron could boost this part of Newcrest assuming the HG ore from Havieron can offset higher costs, poor hedging etc

Understand that production does not necessarily mean positive cash-flow and a rising share price and there's a rather naive assumption that this is the case.

PQ - Yes, that's what I thought. He does appear to present his opinion in general terms without reference to Newcrest. This quote from the CEO of Newcrest is beyond confident in its assertion. It's a bold statement to make for a CEO

I know both Origin Energy (partnering FOG) and Santos have recently (3 weeks ago now, I suspect) halted fracking work in the NT and suspended operations for at least 3 months

Are drilling rigs the same for both oil-gas and non-oil/gas? Are they multiple purpose across all natural resource drilling?

I wonder if the two rigs being used by Origin and Santos in the NT have been released for havieron?
