Jefferies expects much less damage to Lloyd’s net interest margins from deposit migration, mortgage churn and back-book roll-off than consensus forecasts.
Talks with pension trustees about the triennial review also point to the end of the variable component of current contributions, which would free up £1.2bn of capital annually.
Allied to higher cash generation targets and cost-cutting, this would allow for buybacks over the next three years of £3bn, £2.5bn and £2bn respectively or £8bn in total.
On its best case scenario, Jefferies' target price is 87p and 41p on a worst case basis.
Inflation reduces the value of money. This reduces the real value of your debt and also the real value of your savings. This is particularly the case if we have high inflation during a period of very low-interest rates.
Is your mortgage payment about to soar by a third? OBR warns interest rates could soar to 3.5 per cent as inflation may head to a three-decade high of 5.4 PER CENT next year - adding £300 a month to a £150,000 25-year mortgage. Daily Mail today!
The problem I can foresee is the masking of the true figures based on means testing... Those with a little cannot claim Universal credit and therefore not included in official stats. This makes the unemployment statistics somewhat ambiguous?
JLR's problems have nothing to do with Brexit and more to do with its business strategy and Governments demonisation of diesel. Landrover always offered affordable down to earth 4x4's too which many were hit with £500 plus road tax by various Governments. Yes, a premium element to the Range Rovers but recently Govan the Chief designer's strategy was to take all Landrovers into the premium sector including the new Defender. By not producing an affordable product for the masses it was only a matter of time before the average man on the street would be priced out. There is only X amount of money around and to have such a high production rate target sets aside what a premium products place is in the market. Lower numbers but higher prices. JLR made another big mistake by not having a core product replacement available when they phased out the Defender. With the whole world suffering from serious debt woes the car industry as with all other will have to self adjust but to say this correction is Brexit related is beyond comprehension.
Jayfax i do wonder why you do not move to the EU....If you apply WTO tariffs to goods then you open up a revenue stream, that alongside a little bit of inflation and savings due to not paying into the Federalist Government means Britain gains financially. Lets be honest the ex Greek finance minister has said this morning Greece needs to prepare to reinstate the Dracma asap alongside the general held view that the next EU elections will see a dramatic change in governance due to rising nationalism. Yes people love their national identity and i will hate to be an MP of the British Parliament should democracy not be done next March.
As for Jayfax he should move to the EU as the first available opportunity as he clearly does not believe in democracy or sovereign government. in the old days his comments could be construed as treason. As for car loans their are clear indicators the BOE would have to put up interest rates as opposed to lowering them in a no deal scenario. If WTO tariffs causing inflationary pressure within the economy such as with cars this, as with other sectors, would cause a movement upwards which would have to be offset? A balance for the bank will be a central pathway of profit against bad debts.

On becoming Prime Minister in 1951, Churchill lost no time in also disappointing those who wanted Britain to join the project for European unity, including both his sons-in-law Duncan Sandys and Christopher Soames. On 29 November 1951, he wrote a minute on Robert Schuman’s plan for a European Iron and Steel Community — which was to form the basis for the later EEC — that stated unequivocally:
Our attitude towards further economic developments on the Schuman lines resembles that which we adopt about the European Army. We help, we dedicate, we play a part, but we are not merged with and do not forfeit our insular or Commonwealth character…. It is only when plans for uniting Europe take a federal form that we ourselves cannot take part, because we cannot subordinate ourselves or the control of British policy to federal authorities.
It was true that Churchill came up with a plan for the pound sterling to join a common currency, but it was with the US dollar.
Seems at Thanks LTV totally at odds with Jayfax summary to date including the argument of a Federal Europe? .
‘Where do we stand?’ Churchill asked the Commons in 1952:
Churchill was himself clearly not a ‘European’ at all. If he had had his way, Britain would have been ‘associated’ with a Europe that would extend from Lisbon to Brest-Litovsk… but would never have formed part of it herself. Why the European federalists should have apparently thought at one time that he was thinking of British membership of a federal Europe I have never understood. He always made it quite clear that Britain, if he had anything to do with it, would stand aloof.
‘In our European Movement we have worked with federalists,’ Churchill told the Commons when in opposition, ‘and we have always made it clear that, although they are moving along the same road, we are not committed to their conclusions.’ British pro-Europeans despaired of the way that, as Jebb also put it, ‘Churchill was not really in favour of joining anything like a supranational Europe.’ In August 1948, Churchill told Lady Violet Bonham Carter that the ‘Federal solution’ could not work because ‘a Parliament of Europe [was] quite impracticable’.

Bloody hell Jayfax how the hell is the EU not a Federalist Government? "Second the actual laws agreed are signed off only by the EU parliament which includes Britain." I rest my case on your words? Not Great Britain The EU Parliament. Everything you say is subjective and is not conducive to a Sovereign Parliament. The EU will fall apart and this country and voters will rebel. We are not the USA to which 50 states have a common language, and identity. The EU is not. Imposing laws dressed as directives and requiring a flag and Army is an act of Federalism negating a need for such a thing as a sovereign parliaments. So your propaganda negates the fact this is another attempt at the USSR in all but name? Imposition that sets aside a sovereign democracy will fail. The EU has, in the south, made people poorer so how you could possibly say workers have benefited is absurd. The Wealth has clearly not been evenly distributed with Germany the only economy with a trade surplus.
You miss the point again Jayfax where the text that states Britain to be ruled by a foreign power? Not seen since 1066? there is a major difference in wanting to trade with Europe to being a member and controlled by a federalist EU government to which a sovereign government is set aside! I fail to see your point other then the text and narrative you produce does not stand up to scrutiny and Churchill will be turning in his grave with your suggestion. Churchill would never agree to the UK being subservient to a Federal EU Government. How could you possibly say otherwise.
Its has nothing to do with the red herring being Russia.. The first real battle we had with Russia when Churchill was a young Calvary Officer in the early 1900's regarding the Kyber Pass....We and the Indian Army, a war Churchill fought in- fought to prevent Russia entering Afghanistan! Since then we have had the Iron Curtain etc none of which has played a major part in the direction of Europe....I concede partition after the 2nd world war happened but the realisation that splitting national identity could not be sustained and under Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev conceded. A simple case of how national identity could not be replaced as with - exactly what the European Union is trying to replicate now with one Flag, Anthem, Army etc hence failed USSR The word nationalism is being misrepresented as it means different things to different people. Are England supporters nationalistic hanging the flag of St George on their houses?
The only plan we need to leave the EU is a till at the border and passport inspections. Trading is under WTO rules and just watch how quick the EU will be to seen to compromise. The only reason Hitler rose to power was as a direct result of reparations following WW1 instigated by Europe leaving Germany in poverty. When people are suppressed enough such as Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal people rise to the flag and hope for a strong leader...This is not a bad thing to hear a strong politician standing up for his people if people want to construe this as Nationalism then so be it. In reply to the business argument- When i left school employers trained people what the liberals cannot grasp although very simple to understand is mass immigration reduces wages? Every Britain has been hit indirectly my mass immigration they did not vote for or have a say in...Labour actually apologised for flooding the Labour market with 3 million plus peoples driving down wages to which only employers benefit. So in truth i see why business is crying foul but democracy must bee seen to work or the people will rise and i fear the alternative will have a bigger consequence on us all! History dictates this!
Wrong Jayfax....Sorry read 90% of Churchill's books and studied Germany's Weimar and Wilhelm 2 for 30 years! Your interpretation falls on one point alone- Churchill also stated history is very good guide to the future! When i mentioned Great Britain and the USA and left out one important fact- The Commonwealth. Look at Germany now the only country in Europe without a trade deficit, further more we know how disastrous the ERM was for us! Germany gains via a weak Euro and expansion was only agreed to create and control new markets for her to exploit. Only a fool would fail to see the economic benefits it has brought Germany but failed to reach others in the eurozone. To walk away on WTO rules will bring real new freedoms to all of us....We did not need a plan prior to the EEA and we will survive again. Problem with your argument is Europe could have put this to bed years ago by merely stating free movement exists but those that do cannot claim benefits in kind form the host nation....Only their own country....So please stop selling your propaganda on behalf of Juncker (Unelected) and have faith we survived before and we will survive again. By the way nationalism is as real today in Germany as it was 100 years ago.
That's just your view Jayfax..History has told it differently. Many died to prevent the 4th Reich which is what Germany has achieved without a single bullet being fired- a disgrace perpetrated by lying politicians over decades. Something in the beginning they could control as they controlled the media- problem is with technology came social media, and they hate that! Do not forget it was Great Britain and the USA that gave Europe the freedoms it enjoys today. We need politicians that have " 2 testicles" and the Will to go against the crowd-most importantly represent the people. Yes we have a problems in that another party needs to be formed with a leader that has 2 balls first. Secondly, the ability to rip up the federalist Europe that is so keen to dilute our national identity, something Hitler realised was needed if he was ever to conquer us! Many would say our current crop of politicians are traitors in the true sense of the word...Guess who did away with hanging for Traitors? Tony Blair. Being proud of our country is an asset not a liability perpetrated by Europe!
I voted Brexit and i do not recall some 3rd way fudge on the ballot paper, most importantly i am fed up with politicians insulting my intelligence when they say i did not know what i voted for- I know exactly what i voted for. The proposal yesterday promoted by May is nothing more then a play on words with everything remaining the same! Negotiation is a two way street- Barnier and Co have offered no reasons to what can be done and every reason to why It cannot...Considering this, its time not to do a Greece and roll over, but stand firm and leave...Its a shame we do not have Churchill or dare say a Trump. For those of you moaning/ protesting about Trump having a state visit- How about China and Saudi ? Bit of a double standard here i think considering China and Saudis ability to kill of any decent literally! Had my moan now back to Lloyds.
Regarding the crushers.....As Wolf have said trialling one? Fits with the information known that if successful others will follow? Makes sense to trial one before committing to purchase?
