Well "shortly" is wooly, but generally means in days not weeks, I reckon.

Have a look at CTY, a listed investment trust, look at 3 or 5 year share chart, pays a 3.8% dividend too. Go into detail and you'll see the portfolio that delivers this.

Of course you may have money stashed away already and can't access it easily.

Hello there. IMO is you need to wait till pay day then you should probably save some cash, to create a safety buffer for the unknown in life, before buying shares. My recommendation since you ask is that you don't buy any PDL shares. If you need to buy shares go with a decent dividend payer in the FTSE100 or a listed investment trust of which there are many that are likely to give capital growth and a dividend. You get some diversification. My tuppence.

If this can break through historical resistance at 130p then this IMO will continue the up trend. Tomorrow's results will be interesting. Even with good news (on guidance would be good), as usual the SP will drop regardless at least for a day or 2!

Chief Executive Johan Dippenaar told Reuters the latest blue diamond discovery could outstrip recent finds. "By some margin ... this is probably the most significant stone we've ever, in terms of blue stones, recovered," he said. "The stones in the last year or so are selling well above $2 million per carat. That's not my quote, that's updates in the market," he said ahead of the company's first-half trading statement. Petra Diamonds is due to release figures on production and sales for the six months to Dec. 31 on Thursday, but these will not take into account the find which occurred in January.

Spottedlurcher - GEM - I followed them for a while and watched them slip to 18p and decided the trend looked decidedly negative. Since then they recovered, but I still don't think they are at the same level as when they bought Faberge (correct me if I'm wrong). Breakout here at PDL - hopefully after results on Thursday that I can only hope show a strong second half of 2014 that takes PDL significantly over FY estimates given after 1H. I see this as one for a steady climb rather than a spike. My plan is to sell these at 200p before the year end.

2014 results in 2 days (Thursday). Mid year guidance form the company was 3.0 million carats - will PDL beat that? any thoughts out there?
