The luddites who prefer nuclear fission ,with all it's incumbent baggage ie time to build ,commission ,safety, radioactive waste,security and decommissioning costs. Green energy from wind and tide are all initially dependent on fosil fuel energy to produce all the kit . Fracking is a near term (cica. 6 months) energy supply solution that will produce wealth and energy stability for the country. Personally i think these paid antifrackers should be first in line to experience power cuts (if any) this winter.

Crownus , i'm well aware that nuclear fusion is a whole different ball game to fission,generating the temperature , pressures and magnetic containment are formidable,Sustaining the reaction is the hard bit -the key .The point i'm trying to make is scientific knowledge has moved on exponentially since WW11. Who knows creating a viable fusion reactor hear on Earth may be imposible,but as a species we owe it to ourselves to give it ago and not leave it to the vagaries of private industry.

The Manhattan project was successful because it was the best of the best working on it with the accrued knowledge being pooled ,unlike the various projects being conducted by private industry today.

It took less than 5 years to create a working fision bomb virtually from scratch thanks to the Manhattan project. Throwing everything including the kitchen at fusion may yield similar success.

I don't understand why some people consider nuclear fision to be a panacea to help achieve 'net zero'. Needs lots of energy to build and maintain a fision plant .When it has completed it's useful life it needs to be decommissioned and the radioactive waste stored for untold years. A fision plant is a slow motion' nuclear bomb,with all the inherent safety and security that entails. Nuclear fusion is the way to go.

Tried reading through the final results ,they mentioned a game changer,the only game changer i could see is to replace the Bod.
