small animal vet practices31 Oct 2018 13:48
As far as I can see the in store practices are, and can only offer the basics, ie consultations/spays/castrations, rabbit dentals, and financially the price race for these services is ( first to the bottom), if the instore purchasing power is strong enough to compete with the Net then fair enough, , but for Vets to really earn there money, they need to do the more invasive and expensive ops, the trouble there....... is PETS will only pay a certain salary for the vets , hence they are usually new qualified vets, and intsore just with basic facilities
A lot of the corporate groups are buying/have purchased ( referral centres) where the Insured animals can have that expensive ops they need.
The small animal market , drug wise is controlled by 3 main uk wholesalers, who basically act like a cartel with the prices, and as vets/groups cannot import cheaper drugs from the Eu, the margins are well controlled, I can see the growth slowing as they are all in a crowded market, as prev said i worked in this industry for 8 yrs untill 2015,
Im no financial wizard so happy to be corrected on any aspect
