With SIM trading at essentially break-even, blue chip clients globally, the potential in simulation training, unmanned aircraft, VR and AR, and the $6m cash pile relative to just a £1.5m EV at the current share price, let's see if this year justifies the increased optimism in the outlook.

Finncap have updated today and hope to relaunch forecasts asap. They conclude:

"Transition: the on-going transition to SaaS impacted sales as license revenue is spread over 5-12 year (reduced by 85% this year) yet 2018 was one of Simigon’s strongest delivery years. Capital Drilling Limited (LON:CAPD) is “well positioned” to benefit from a likely increase in exploration spending amid an uptick in metals prices, according to analysts at Peel Hunt, who initiated coverage on the firm on Thursday with a ‘buy’ rating and 76p target price.

In its initiation note, the broker said the stronger metal prices and cash flows “should lead to further increases in exploration budgets”, particularly for gold, which has mostly recovered from a slump last summer, which took it below US$1,200 an ounce to around US$1,277 today.

As the firm has around one-third of its drilling rigs in West Africa, a region that accounts for 45% of the continent’s gold exploration spend, analysts said the predicted rise in spending could “lift utilisation rates and revenues”.

If historic peak utilisation rates were reached for Capital’s rigs, Peel Hunt said as much as 50% could be added to their base case of US$28mln in underlying (EBITDA) earnings for 2019.

Analysts added that the US$11mln in cash the group had in the bank at the end of its last fiscal year, gave it “significant flexibility” to reinvest in the business, which in turn would “put it in a better position to win West Africa mining service contracts”.

The strong net cash position also allowed the company to continue paying dividends in addition to these investments, Peel Hunt said.

In late-morning trading on Thursday, Capital Drilling shares were steady at 51.5p, a 48% discount to the brokers target price."

The quarterly conference call was upbeat, but had this to say in particular about the development of new in-park apps and technology which it notes as enabling the upselling of Flash Pass:

And then we've got new mobile front gate systems to ensure that we reduce wait time and we've dedicated some parts at the front gate just for members, so that they can get in even faster. And we've also worked on a new website that is optimized for phones first in ADA and other areas. The app itself, to your question, Mark, it's redesigned really to make it even easier to use and it has improved home screen messaging we've updated interactive park map technology, which allows for quick map update and styling changes. As I said, we've got the mobile food orderings the people can conveniently order ahead. We can upsell directly. We reduced the wait time for food, as a result of that, we've also built in -- and this was a question that came earlier the ability to purchase memberships and season passes on the app. And we're the only company I think that has this membership loyalty program and so that loyalty program is directly on the app and allows you to easily track point balances, check information, ride shows et cetera. It also gives ride wait time accurate, very accurate ride wait times. So overall it's very positive both from a user perspective as guests enjoy using something that is easier for them. But it also allows us to target upsell opportunities both in terms of our passes, but also dining and FLASH Pass. So there's a lot different in the app and really targeted one, to please the guests, but two, to ensure we can sell them more while they're in the park and even outside of the park."

Pretty decent results today, particularly as regards H2'18 compared to H1.

SIM made a loss of only $0.3m excluding the one-off bad debt provision - and in H2 this loss was just $0.04m.

So SIM is now trading essentially at break-even. And this outlook reads well in that respect:

"By increasing SaaS-based contracts for more recurring revenue and better long term visibility, together with intensive R&D investment and business development efforts on multiple market opportunities, the Company expects to quickly resume cash flow positive activities and profitability."

This £5.6m m/cap has $6m net cash plus around $2.4m net trade receivables/payables.

SIM have written off $2.34m of R&D expenses - and this increased to $1.3m in H2, yet SIM still almost achieved break-even.

EU Supply, the Swedish-headquartered but AIM listed public sector tender management platform grew revenue grew by 10% to £5.1m (2017: £4.7m) last year. Its SaaS focused strategy is now seeing 70% of revenues of recurring or repeatable nature up from 66% in 2017.

Having achieved its maiden profit in 2017 (see here) management will be pleased to have delivered another profitable year (operating profit of £0.4m for 2018).

EU Supply looks to have benefited from the requirement for mandatory e-tendering provisions at milestones before November 2018 in EU/EEC states. To take advantage of this limited window of opportunity the business raised a further £600k of investment in May last year primarily to further enhance its e-sourcing platform. The platform is now being used by some 8,000 European public sector bodies across 9 Member States."

Gama Aviation has agreed to let Hutchison Whampoa China increase its stake in the business aviation company to 30%. Hutchinson, a division of Hong Kong conglomerate CK Hutchison Holdings, took a 24.9% stake in Gama Aviation in 2018.

“The main rationale is that Hutchinson think our stock is pretty cheap at the moment, have faith in the business and want to increase their stake,” says Marwan Khalek, CEO and founder of Gama Aviation.

Shares in Gama Aviation were trading at £208.50 at the end of April 2018. They were at £69.5 on Tuesday April 23 this year rising to £93.50 on Friday April 26 – possibly boosted by the Hutchinson announcement.

“We have made some mistakes – including missing guidance, which is a cardinal sin, and we are paying the price for that – but we are still a profitable, cash generative business with a strong strategy,” says Khalek.

Hutchinson become an anchor investor in Gama in February 2018 when Gama raised £48 million ($67 million) in a share issue. The Hong Kong group bought 21% of the company. At the same time Gama used $19.8 million of the issue’s proceeds to acquire Hutchison’s Hong Kong aviation interests: its 50% stake in a joint venture with the business operator — Gama Aviation Hutchison Holdings — and Hutchinson’s 20% stake in maintenance company China Aircraft Services Limited (“CASL”).

At the start of April, Gama appointed Simon To as non-executive chairman. To is managing director of Hutchison Whampoa (China) Limited and chairman of Hutchison China Meditech a biopharmaceutical company listed on the AIM and Nasdaq with a market capitalisation of around £3 billion.

He, was already a non-executive director of Gama, has also served on the boards of China Southern and Air China. He has been vice chairman of maintenance company GAMECO since 1989 and is chairman of China Aircraft Services Limited, in which Gama Aviation has a 20% shareholding."
