Yes, I agree, this will keep on increasing exponentially and will only end when enough of the population have had it and have immunity so it dies out, or we get a vaccine.
Until then all we can do is lock down and slow it down in the hope that hospitals can cope. When we take the brakes off it will come back until it has run its course.
I hear from a consultant in London that hospitals are already getting so full that there is not space to treat people for other conditions. The staff they have are going off to self isolate with any slight cough because they are not being tested for Covid, so every cold means a week off. The ones who have any underlying health condition are asking to be signed off because they are in the vulnerable group. He is really worried already and this if just the start. He is asking people to spread the word to stay at home.

Current number of ventilator beds in UK around 5,000 most in use for other things.

How do people not get how bad this could be without these interventions to slow it down to a slow trickle of cases over a long time.

How do people think 'it's just a bad cold, I won't change my behaviour'.
If you get it you are likely to infect possibly a lot of other people even before you have symptoms.
You may have a mild illness, but you may infect people who need a ventilator when none are available or worse.

My bet is on the 'secure' option as in sign a sales contract...

Wondered if you have considered doing a bed and ISA to declare a tax loss without using the shares. When you get above 51p, you could have half you shares (ISA allowance for this year and on April 6th) in the ISA and tax free when there is a profit. You will also have a tax loss to use against future gains when there are some.

But that is the beautiful thing about the HiiRoc system AFC have recently announced their interest in.
Hopefully the prototype they will build will work.
Their plasma technology system will convert methane (CH4) to hydrogen (H2) and carbon black (C) with not release of greenhouse gasses (CH4, CO2 or CO).
So natural gas methane (readily available and piped easily and cheaply to the location of your choice) can be a zero emission fuel with this method.

This looks like a substantial company with a good product.
Have you noticed there are about 50 million shares in issue at 244 swedish krone each (around £19). So the Mcap is around £1 billion.
Their fuel cell is based on PEM technology and they have a reformer for hydrocarbon fuels which they clean to remove CO and S.
There is no mention of it tolerating ammonia as fuel, and a PEM based fuel cell likely doesn't.
No mention on their website of price. PEM fuel cells have a reputation for being expensive.
They do have contracts though.

But getting the word out to smaller players could be done very well by having up to date news on a website, twitter, Rolec website, trade mags, media coverage.

Desertwolf, that is exactly what I said.
There are many smaller players who would be interested in the small size EV charger, but to reach them there needs to be marketing and publicity.
Concentrating on on 50 major players who attended the 5th December launch and who may only want the larger units is missing a lot of opportunity.

At the moment the 20 KW version of the EV charger is available for sale.
Major players may only want the bigger versions, with smaller players ready to buy this size.
Concentrating on major players and failing to market the product they have is arguably a big mistake.

This is great news! Why is the market missing it?

An elephant in the room for AFC has always been that no matter how good their tech, they will only be providing an emission free solution to anything if the hydrogen is source from emission free processes.
The prospective customers we have will be looking for 'carbon neutral' and 'emission free' solutions and am sure will be asking about the carbon footprint of any hydrogen source.

This is all good.
In my view, Jim Gibson, Graeme Lewis and Adam Bond all have skills which can make AFC realise full potential.
If options help keep them motivated to do the best job they can along this road then bring it on..

I don't see this as competition for AFC.
They hold charge for a limited number of vehicles then you have to move them (they weight tonnes), so a forklift and large vehicle. Then you take them elsewhere to recharge, with exactly the same problem of getting high power from distributed networks unless you are charging them very slowly. So then you would need to have lots of them.
Not a practical solution other than as a very short term temporary power supply.

We were told on Friday that the Thursday meeting had seen:
50+ potential customers,
The two largest high street retailers
The largest UK postal delivery service
UKs largest car park operator
Europe's largest energy provider
4 local councils with a commitment to ending diesel use by 2025.
and that '50% of fast charging opportunities in UK are constrained by the power limitations of Distributed Network Operators'
This applies to urban areas with heavy energy use as well as more isolated locations.
Upgrading of distributed networks will often take far longer than timelines of 2025, so an off grid option is a (the only?) solution.

I asked about Alkamem in the Q and A last Friday.
Adam said it is available now for potential purchase.
That it was being tested for various performances.
Most of these boxes were ticked, but ongoing testing for some things (he didn't specify what).
However, I imagine that any longevity testing would be specific to the customer application/conditions, so would be up to them. AFC couldn't test for everyone's conditions.
He also said that for customers asking questions about it longevity was not one of the things they were asking about.

So my take on this is that it does not require long term further testing before it is a commercial product, but it is up to the customer to see it it meets their specific needs. For this it is available now.

Doc7 and the wh ireland comment about alkamem may raise something I had not considered.

Using alkamem in the AFC (S) fuel cell will make a something competitive with the existing PEM market (size and power output) but with the considerable advantage of using lower purity and cheaper hydrogen. The price advantage of using cheaper hydrogen is a game changer.

This could leave AFC with a (fantastic to have) dilemma.
1) Do they licence alkamem to other PEM users. Perhaps they can improve their product to use lower purity hydrogen. This could earn a lot of money for AFC.
2) Do they keep alkamem to themselves so that the AFC (S) fuel cell becomes better than existing PEM fuel cells and takes a big chunk of the existing PEM market. This could earn a lot of money for AFC.

Yes, the £5-10,000 per Kw price range for the current size of EV charger was mentioned last Friday in the presentation. Unless the presentation on the website now has changed the info in the slides it should still be in there.

I suspected some of the Friday presentation info might have been taken out though, so it may not be there now. Not sure about this.
