RE: You tube VR3 Dec 2018 22:50
Is this not just the same video that's available on standard YouTube from 4th October, but in VR?
I'd be surprised and a little disappointed if the global media channel is YouTube.
While YouTube’s average monthly user-base on the ad funded tier is almost the same as FB at ~2m, this model has traditionally compensated rights holders unfairly, as is well reported. I'd expect MVR to want to limit the content they produce that is available there. YouTube Music has less than 10m premium subscribers and is certainly not a main player like Spotify, Apple or even Amazon. They have also dragged their feet in terms of pushing VR.
MVR aim to be a significant new music DSP (and from what we know, they seem to be making all the rights moves imo) so partnering with a company like this as opposed to driving users to their own app via, say, the leading VR hardware manufacturer and worlds biggest social media company who can provide priceless value in bespoke advertising, would be a strange choice for their long-term strategy.
Honestly, who knows at this point, but given what we’ve seen my hope still lies with FB, whose long-term strategy is to get 1b people using VR. Just my thoughts.
