The actual proportion of C14 to C12 in irradiated graphite is tiny, of the order of 50 parts per million. C14 is a "weak beta emitter". Concentration of C14 is far from straightforward, involving burning and capture of radioactive CO2. All these points drawn from the above report. This leads me to suspect that NDB are likely to find the going hard. JMHO.

C14 decay also produces Nitrogen, which is a gas that likes to be a molecule of two Nitrogen atoms. Consider that one Nitrogen atom might exist in "solution" inside diamond, but that two Nitrogen atoms will be a gas when they get together, for example in a vacancy in the diamond lattice. This process will create tiny pockets of gas under enormous pressure and eventually microscopic cracks will form between two adjacent pockets. Sooner or later the diamond structure will become disrupted. CF Hydrogen cracking mechanism in steel.

There were such things as 12" floppies once, or so I am led to believe. Apparently, the earlier ICL mainframes used to be able to do their Initial Program Load (IPL) from such a device. I have never seen one. I have a box of ten 8" floppies as a conversation piece. I have also had my cards punched, but not this morning.

A kit-built 1- or 2-seater something with a 3.5 Rover V8 in it. I just love that low-down grunt and not having to change gear so often.
