Reo - building more houses does not encourage people to have more children. What it does do, is allow people to buy themselves a ‘home’ and get a foot on the housing ladder, or do you expect the younger generation to just rent from greedy landlords taking advantage of the UK’s housing shortage.
I’ve no doubt you’re nicely settled in yours, but what if you were 25 and wanted to settle down, what are your options? Pretty thin on the ground.
If we built 1m homes next week, it would use up less than 1% of green belt, which doesn’t strike me as an issue, when people need somewhere to live.
I assume you’re aware there’s thousands of kids in social care facilities, separated from parents because there isn’t enough housing stock! Mum sleeps on the sofa of a friend, kids are in a dorm facility run by social services etc.
