Couple of points contained within the posts.

1. We that work, have been paying contributions to the NHS, it's called NI.

2. Policies have to go through regulation. Unions were mentioned as having oversight. More like vested interest, they shouldn't have such influence over the political process. Parties should all be funded by tax not factions which bring bias.

3. Minority activist groups are ruining democratic process. Money expended to meet their vociferous demands and pay to police their demos, diktats etc exceed what democracy would approve if Gov didn't always cave.

4. The cost of public services is massively overpriced due to their enormous pensions which add a huge buffer before the money employed his the road. Forget the state pension moans, look at what the greedy civil servants cost us for very little return.

Been folding in at various of these low levels. Worst case, a good dividend to back up the holding or maybe a sell back above 50 and a grand or so in bank?

This share does seem to oscillate regularly between 50 and 60.

I work in property sales. Landlords are offloading rentals faster than I have seen in 10 years. The stamp duty implications of the budget will load multiple thousands onto first time and repeat buyers. Business are not hiring and eliminating non critical roles due to costs.

I think we are at the foothills of this dreadful budget causing many companies immense pain but particularly housebuilding. I can see a few failing under such circumstances, hopefully not TW but shares may well go sub £1

That's sensible but the lure has multi year ramifications extending far beyond the career. Furthermore its not just the useful jobs you refer to but all the dross too, like MP's, spin doctors etc. Take a look at any conference on climate and you will see hundreds of tax funded beauracrats attending on jets or first class travel I suspect.

The problem is, when you have those making the rules paid differently from those they do called serve, guess where the rewards will accrue. Have you seen the huge payoffs etc, Sue Gray comes to mind. We, pay for that.

My point, yes, pay them well enough to attract them in the first place, if a jobs worth doing and all that. Be able to fire them if they don't perform and let them, like us, take their private pension with them.

This being the case and if it's only fair, why doesn't the Gov move all the Public sector onto the same schemes as Private then? Think of the massive cost savings that would produce. A public sector pension will allow a far better living and ability to provision for your family than anything private. The significantly better standard of living continues for years until death of the employee and partner. It is fully index linked and has zero risk, during which time, the ability to pass on wealth from higher income support to anyone you want, children etc is built in. No need to wait until they die to inherit a pension pot, grab it on the go.

Is that not a massive advantage that should be taxed more highly?

Thanks for the reply Jim. I'm reading the tax is actually worse than IHT as once IHT is paid, further tax has to be paid at the inheritors marginal rate to access the pot. Not sure this is right but lots of press saying it's actually going to be more like 60% + tax on a pension pot.

A useful idiot in one of the papers was berating people that use pensions to avoid IHT, claiming this was unfair on the state. I'm guessing he didn't have a private pension built up, I pointed out, no public pension holder would ever swap and enjoy a far far better outcome than private holders. Plus of course, you can't tell when your going to die, so how can you avoid leaving some behind. The nil rate bands help but are dwindling away with another 5 year freeze.

Like you and many others, I am now planning to spend SIPP down as my first action whilst gifting any spare money to kids under the 7 year exemption or the excess income rule. My question is, what does this do to AV/LGEN/PHNX etc?

Surely this budget adding private pensions to IHT is going to cause a tsunami of Drawdown folk to try and throttle down their investments? Thousands, possibly millions of pots will be above the nil band and when added to savings, house value etc, coupled with the freeze for 5 more years, many will just see Drawdown as a Gov piggy Bank?

Suppose there is always Annuity but that removes flexibility and choice of investments.
