Well, we aren't going to agree on this. Right at the start of covid I remember reading an article by an epidemiologist who said that the most dangerous thing was that everyone now believed that they were experts in the field, rego training or experience. Applies to us all, self included.
Maybe we can agree on this: please get vaxxed. Get boosted. Take responsibility for your health and well-being.

Is our government making the same mistake as two years ago? I am not so sure. Two years ago (actuallynnearly three years ago) we had no vaccine and no post-infection acquired immunity. We also had no viable treatment and a much more deadly, albeit less transmissible, virus. All those conditions have now changed. We have a well vaccinated population with relatively high levels of acquired immunity. Surely the more appropriate lesson to have learned is to look at China's failed zero covid policy and recognise that border controls are at best a placebo effort and at worst a waste oenergy and resources that would be better employed elsewhere. Omicron is here. It has been for the last year. We are living with it. Whether we do or don't test arrivals from China isn't going to change that.

..... for Matlot to return?

I'm with NotBot on this one. I think the risk of losing out from hanging on for a few months is outweighed by the possibility of a counter-bid.
RG
Likewise, drop by now and then. I've reduced my exposure across the board (well pretty much) pro tem. I think the next 12-24 months will be rough, not particularly Metro, but will be ack in when I feel the mo.

If only it were possible to get a definite, guaranteed straight answer to your, questions. It's a bit like asking which horse will definitely win the next race, or whether Arsenal will finish in the top four this year. No wait, after last night , I think the last of those can be answered!

I think there's a saying that the first profit is the sweetest. I'm sure we've all been guilty of hanging on to stocks for too long waiting for just that bit more and then losing out.
RG
Condemned for what others fear you might do in the future and not what you have done.
Still at least there is life on this board again. It's been a while.

Interesting link Theosus. I wasn't aware they'd scaled up use of 3D concrete so far. It would be very interesting to know how much they are using on HS2. Being cynical (and my day job puts me in the same room as HS2 all too frequently which might well explain that), I have to wonder if this is really just a token effort to grab some much needed good PR for HS2? The 50% carbon reduction quoted elsewhere only relates to the elements where they are replacing conventional concrete, not the whole of HS2. So it could be miniscule in reality. I hope that isn't the case. It's a great product and deserves more attention. Plus of course, can't hurt our share value.

Having walked through the middle of the protest, I can vouch for it being nowhere near a million people. I'd be surprised if it was even 50k. Based on previous protests I'd guess at around 10k people. Hardly earth shattering.

There is a short, concise examination of why the high street banks are struggling in this week's Economist. It's looking at NatWest/Ulster Bank but a lot of the same metrics and logic apply to Metro. Worth a read.
RG
In the nicest possible way, so do we all, investor6. Oh well, who knows what tomorrow brings.
RG
.....investor6.
Moral of the story, sadly would seem to be to enter the lowest bid!
Well done investor6. Chapeau.
RG
Indeed Theosus. I reached that conclusion a long time ago. Meanwhile congrats with your Argo. Going nicely. Well done.
RG
I think you are all being terribly unfair. I am sure the Pied Piper will be here soon to explain (or do I mean suggest in as cryptic and ambiguous way possible) exactly why the 300p didn't happen but will happen one day soon, or maybe not soon, subject to a few things dropping into place, which are all about to drop into place......
RG
For the last three months the SP has sat somewhere between 120p and 150p. Today, following results, it's bang in the middle of that range. Suggests no big drama today, more a case of nothing to see here.
Only two full days to go before we got the Pied Piper's 300p though so that will be exciting.
RG
Nov
Didn't you win the sweepstake last time round back in May? In the very nicest way I hope you're wrong this time round, though I fear you probably aren't.
RG
I think you missed one or two (but then again it was oh my god it's early) and in order of decreasing optimisim......:
Matlot 300p
Cud 193p
Planet earth 185p
Swanny 182p
Giraffe 174p
Jimjam 171p
Racing_Green 168p
Twist or bust 166p
Krisdavies8885 164p
Removalman 159p
GingerT 158p
Theosus 150p
Pat2014 136p
Investor6 120-130p
I hope I included everyone.
RG
So we have the following entries:
Matlot 300p
Racing_Green 168p
Krisdavues8885 164p
Removalman 159p
Jimjam 171p
GingerT 158p
Swanny 182p
Investor6 120-130p
Pretty tight grouping except for the first and last. Good luck all and let's hope that everyone but matlot is wrong.
Have a great week. Weather forecast for Wednesday is 17 degrees and sunny here. Good omen??
RG
With the end of the month just a week away I wonder if any of you would like to predict the SP this time next week. Matlot has kindly started the ball rolling with his 300p (minimum) prediction. I'll add my own, rather more downbeat, punt at 168p. Anyone else care to throw their hat in the ring? Remember this is just a bit of fun.
RG
PS I miss having decent sport to watch on a Sunday afternoon.
