Anger, I did the job for 27 years but never really fitted in. I think all the flash cars I had was maybe the reason. I never agreed with going on strike in previous disputes but did, as I didn’t see it as losing money: you don’t work so don’t get paid was fine by me. I previously worked for the TSB so knew a bit about shares; my first foray was buying 100 Cable and Wireless maybe around 1980.

Hi Anger, I keep in touch with an old colleague and he says even though they’re all voting No they’ll be staying in the union. So they’ve gone on strike when the union says and following them 100% but refusing to do as they recommend. Very odd. Ps. Keep up the banter, it’s ace.

What does keep annoying me from the hierarchy of the union is them saying that RM made £758m last year.

What happened to the posties doing everything the union says? Strike they said, so they did. Accept the offer they say, but……No! Very odd. I’m glad I’m not there anymore.

I keep in touch with my old mates in my delivery office in Manchester. They’re all voting No apparently. But they were/are a bit clueless. I told them to pile in 10 years ago when the IPO happened: only my boss and I bothered.

Chickenfriedrice it intrigues me that you used to have high powered jobs. I’d have thought RM wouldn’t employ you because they’d think you’d get bored. (My girlfriend would like the same but as she’s a lawyer she gets rebuffed.) As for delivering mail in the dark; when I started on delivery in 1997 (when there was two deliveries) we’d be at houses before light and used to be issued with torches. But I do agree that later deliveries are rubbish. It should revert to really early when people are still in. We’d start our duties at 5:15 having got to work traffic-free, and be home for lunch time to be able to do anything after. Happy days…..
