Advanced prep including a completed feasibility study and extended EPC/MoU with PowerChina positions it far ahead of the pack for rapid mobilisation. Add logical overburden synergies with the Teesta mega project, tailwinds from the Draft Power and Energy Master Plan and strong political backing for northern development/domestic coal and Phulbari is easily the most viable, high quality and strategically attractive path to unlocking Bangladesh’s reserves at scale.

Well said redeyemines, this is classic post placing churn and digestion. What I'd add is that without the free ride of attached warrants on the placing shares, a higher percentage will be held for the ride compared to typical deals. The clean structure should help the overhang resolve faster.

Nobody with eyes on the prize should be upset or surprised by this placing, it's a very positive and responsible move heading into the most important period in GCM's history. The board has a clear fiduciary duty to shareholders to manage finances prudently, as Paul Shackleton rightly emphasised at the AGM. They could have waited and risked the post election environment on fumes but instead they seized the rally window to raise exactly the right amount with modest dilution, at a sensible discount, and a tiny warrant sweetener for the broker. This demonstrates strong governance and positions the company to pursue Phulbari without financial pressure during the critical pre and post election phase. Onwards, the story remains intact and the board has done its job.
