For me personally to be reliable on the Russian Sphere or USA sphere for raw energy supplies is not comforting. Also Chinese finance does not make me feel comfortable either.

Europe plus a little old Sovereign UK, at the top of the pyramid, should be self determining in energy.

I do not mind taking cheap raw energy from the Russians as long as we have a plan B to immediately go to should they start 'interfering and influencing' within our borders.
