GBE - General Situation and Strategy2 May 2025 15:39
I've posted links to some useful articles regarding current GBE strategy and where they are currently at. Most recently, GBE is still considering the ‘right places to go’ so to speak. A going concern for SAE and company is that GBE will "focus on areas of high ambition with a low-risk appetite", meaning SAE as the project developer for MeyGen is going to have to evidence HOW and WHY the tidal division at MeyGen is "low risk". The good news is that GBE have been nosing around tidal stream projects, and we have received CfDs.
GBE has partnerships with both the Crown Estate and Crown Estate Scotland, which perhaps eases some of the risk as it has leased out MeyGen. Uskmouth has been significantly derisked, and if MeyBESS gets through then this makes the project potentially more interesting for GBE. The sense I am getting is that there are a lot of BESS projects near Mey and in the pipeline all across Scotland, and will be a significant source of extra revenue for the government in synergy with offshore wind, floating offshore wind and tidal. There is also evidence of private sector capital being concurrent with public sector capital via GBE, as evidenced by public-private matching with their solar projects.
While not relevent to our intrests as shareholders, I do find it intresting that GBE are aiming currently to 'enter development stage projects, taking a minority stake, with the longer-term aspiration of developing its own projects'. This makes sense, given they want GBE to be a public project developer. They seem to be starting small, seeing what works, before eventually doing their own projects.
