Will Sizewell C be safe?5 Sep 2022 14:55
China has substandard building practices.
They buildings look good to sucker investors and then they crumble.
Even their island military bases are failing apart.
Aside from that, is it even a good idea to get a frenemy (with close ties to Russia) to build sensitive infrastructure?
I think not, and that's why I will campaign against it, at least until GBP recovers, so that Britain doesn't get sucked into an expensive 12 year contract for a structure that will only last 40 years at best, even if it were well-built.
For the time being, best primarily stick with trusted and proven technology like gas-power stations, but research under-utilized technologies like stirling generators, trompes, CCS and deep-geothermal loops.
After all, most of the heat down there is from nuclear decay anyway, so why bother with putting up concrete sarcophagi all over the country.
Leave dead oil and gas wells uncapped, do not plug them with concrete.
If they still insist on renewables, use the dead wells for geothermal & "CCS" instead of plugging them, I say.
