"Oil and gas production levels were both higher in the third quarter at energy company JKX Oil and Gas. Total production in the third quarter of 2009 rose to 13,657 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd), up 24% from 10,978 boepd in the same period of 2008."

Kraft, the American food company, is poised to initiate a hostile takeover bid for Cadbury today at or slightly above the offer it made in September, which valued the British confectioner at £10.2bn, according to a person familiar with the deal. Last night Kraft was finalising plans to go directly to shareholders of Cadbury before the UK Takeover Panel’s “put up or shut up” deadline expires at 5pm, the Times reports

"Commercial property firm Segro, the largest listed industrial landlord in Europe, revealed that new enquiries for space continued to fall in the third quarter to 30th September. In the period, disposals totalled 285 million pounds at an average initial yield of 8.4%. The company completed the integration of property firm Brixton and the UK arm is now concentrating on reducing the 23% vacancy rate of the Brixton portfolio. Segro observed that "signs of recovery have emerged ... and new and existing customers are looking more actively at space requirements". The shares fell 6.3p to 338p."

Kraft, the giant American food company, said last night that it would “remain disciplined” in pursuing a bid for Cadbury, the British chocolate maker, even as it lowered its outlook for sales for the coming year. The US group’s statement of intent came as reports suggested that Kraft had obtained $9bn (£5.5bn) of financing for its bid from nine banks. The lead underwriters are understood to be Citigroup, Deutsche Bank and Barclays. Kraft declined to comment, the Times reports.

Property firm Hammerson has seen a firming of UK property yields in the second half of the year as a modicum of confidence returns to markets. Demand for commercial property has increased in the UK and France since 1 July, albeit from a low base in the case of France, where transaction levels remain low in absolute terms.
