They are not a pharma company, per se, but they rather do testing for other companies. So they must be getting good contracts, I presume. From their Blurb: “Cyprotex is a world renowned preclinical discovery/development contract research organisation with a core focus in analysing the ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) and pharmacokinetic properties of potential new drug.”

Griffin Mining Limited announced grim preliminary results for the year to 31st December 2008, with the firm’s pre-tax profits down by 73.8% to 7 million dollars. The firm said that the collapse of the global zinc prize hurt profitability during the period and the lack of currency hedging contracts to protect against sterling weakness resulted in a 3.2 million pounds foreign exchange charge to the bottom line. Chairman Mladen Ninkov said the business would continue to pursue acquisitions as it expects zinc prices to rise sharply as the effects of the global economic downturn ease. Commenting on the results, Broker Seymour Pierce said: “Griffin's 2008 results came in below our estimates with PAT of US$6.3m against our forecast of US$7.8m. We had also expected a modest dividend (US0.9cents/share), but the company has chosen not to pay a dividend for the first time since 2005.” It posted a 'hold' rating for the stock. Shares in the firm fell 0.25p to 27.25p after the update.

It has been very volatile. I have been watching it for months. I made a bit shorting around 40-50p mark, quite frequently. But it has really taken off, recently. I was very surprised, because the results were hardly what one would call inspiring. It may well continue upwards, but I feel happier trying to make a bit on the dips! In fact, there have been lots of shares which have defied logic recently, along with the Market, itself. ATB

It is wild! Took a bit of a "punching." However getting ready to get in again, it surely can't keep going up! :{

DSG International, owner of the Currys and PC World chains, is poised to raise about £300m after sounding out shareholders on a rights issue and placing, which could come as early as this week. DSG’s complex cash call is expected to involve a conventional rights issue alongside a placing of new shares with both existing and new investors, in an effort to broaden the shareholder base, reports the FT.

Write-downs of £147m on its pub portfolio pushed Punch Taverns into a hefty interim loss, with the pub group still "very cautious" on trading going forward. Punch posted a loss of after exceptional items of £122m against a profit of £109m. One-off charges totalled £184m including the pubs write-downs. Stripping that out, profits fell to £82m from £133m. Revenue for the 28 weeks to 7 March fell from £814m to £768m.

Well done. I was almost selling 50% but missed the boat, for now. I was wanting 31/32p. I have a large spread of holdings, I also short a lot, and trade spot gold contracts. The more interesting ones – long-wise” – are AVM, BRR, BGC, EMED, EO. OXS, POG, VOG.

....to see their figures this morning, and the resulting effect on the SP and others within this sector.

..has been “quite active” here recently, with significant drops, however it always appears to recover reasonably well. I think if we go to around the £2 mark I’d bale out, and watch from the sidelines [or perhaps only 50%], always looking to get back in, because there is a potential “gold mine” here. ATB
