Our view: Buy Share price: 152.25p (-2.75p) The changes at BTG since the arrival of Louise Makin as chief executive four years ago are startling. The company says that by 2011 it will be a full scale specialty pharmaceutical group, which is a long way from the intellectual property investor that Ms Makin started leading at the end of 2004. She says it took a long time to persuade investors that the group was changing, but most were convinced when the group bought the biotech firm Protherics last December, and moved to the FTSE 250. Convinced they were, with the shares up nearly a third in the past year. Yesterday the group reported full-year revenues were also up, by 13.1 per cent to £84.8m. We like the company, and more importantly for investors, expect the stock to carry on its upward trajectory. So do watchers at KBC Peel Hunt, who reckon the stock will reach 164p. Even if that is not a great leap from today's levels, we generally think punters should buy a growing stock.

Well, with PUB, it ended up virtually equal – still open. I now usually play around with spot gold contracts [I’ve usually heaps open at one time – waiting for the big take-off] and FTSE and Wall St Cash, until the good lady gets fed up! Hope that things didn’t end up too badly - there is always another day! ATB

I don’t think it will take much to turn it around. I can’t see it flying too high, in the present climate. Hopefully!

I’m down a couple of hundred at the moment, after being up a few hundred. I’d expected Wall St to dip on “Jobless Claims” being up, but the FTSE and Wall St seem to want to hover in positive territory. I’m willing to let it run up a fair bit yet – I usually go to my margin +10/20% above, before I throw in the towel. So a long way to go yet! I’ve actually opened another couple of shorts on the FTSE and Wall St. so we will see what happens. ATB

Yes, I noticed that it had bounced a little today. I’m leaving it for now. The Market is unsure of itself, today. So I’m not opening too many more short, until, I see what happens. We will see how the Yanks influence, later. Nevertheless, I’m still uber-bearish medium to long term, but there are always going to be some bounces. ATB PS I’m taking a hit with a few today, so far, as I’d expected the FTSE to go negative, plenty of time yet.

Playtech reported a positive set of key performance indicators for the three months to 31st March 2009. The business said gross income increased by 46% to 32 million pounds in comparison to the first quarter of 2008. Playtech also said casino and poker revenues were booming with the performance of its Italian poker operations exceeding the board’s expectations. The firm added that previous operations of bookmaker William Hill’s online business were being integrated well into its set-up. In a statement, the business said: “The company maintains a strong pipeline of new licensees in various jurisdictions, with a strong focus on regulated markets, presenting exciting new business opportunities ahead in 2009. Despite the challenging economic environment, the board remains comfortable with market expectations for the full year.” Broker Daniel Stewart reiterated its buy recommendation on the stock in light of its signing of three MoUs and five new licensees during the quarter, adding: “With Q1 KPIs in line, better than expected current trading and expected new licensees and geographic expansion to come in 2009, the current rating of 10.5x FY09E (9.0x FY10E) places the stock at a completely unwarranted c.20% discount to the sector (DSGU 13.0x FY09E). We reiterate our key Buy recommendation and retain our estimates and 543p price target.” Shares in the firm fell 39p to 435.75p in spite of the news.

But although Land Securities has £1.6 billion of cash, its lending arrangements mean that this is more likely to be used to stay within its 80 per cent loan-to-value limit, rather than to pick up properties at bargain prices. At 468p, down 71p, or a 6 per cent discount to Cazenove’s estimate of next year’s net asset value, the shares are up with events. Avoid, says the Times.

Trouble is that companies often sell off the family silver – as that is all that is saleable – to keep afloat, thus they are left with the more dodgy assets. NB I'm short here, hope that you are not long ATB

...you were correct, mate I should have stayed in longer. Never mind, doing OK with a few retails and property outfits, also Intercontimental Hotels, among others. However will still a weather-eye on PUB. ATB
