Many will think this is a board for investors, not an English language forum.
These errors are not our language evolving but a misuse of the wrong words.
Spellcheck does not highlight the errors but a Grammarchecker might.
My pet hate is the is the incorrect use of 'bought and 'brought.' (BUY/bought BRING/brought).
Please remember, that for many, English is not their first language and
please make allowances for those who suffer, unfortunately, from dyslexia.
We have a common goal but be tolerant.
Re "What an Idiot I am with VLS!"
Change "I am" to "I was" and those grey clouds will blow away. I have just used all remaining funds to stick with VLS
because what they offer will make it worthwhile. GLA.
I do not know what led to a 10% drop but by the time I had put funds in place, VLS had bounced back with an 8% rise.
As my Dad used to say, there will always be another chance. GLA.
Woody, do your own thing; start off small so your losses and gains will be small but that is the best way to learn. I keep my biggest loss on my screen to remind me of my folly. You will not find a grand in a jacket pocket but you smile when you come across a forgotten tenner. We invest what we can afford to lose but, in reality, nobody wants to. GLA.
We are told that we should not invest unless prepared to lose but there is that buzz when things go well.
What I find somewhat daunting , if my sums are correct, is it takes a 67% rise to make up a 40% drop.

I am an aged 'small' investor here in NCYT and several other companies. Lately, many of IG's chatrooms have been unavailable over lengthy periods (days!), much more than usual. When Pfizer's vaccine hit the headlines, my holdings in several other pharmaceutical companies were dropping like a stone. I could neither trade up/down nor access other investors' views. IG has the temerity to alter the way I can access my money in purchasing and selling. Rant over, sorry but
I am unable to raise it other chat rooms because they 'remain unavauilable' and , yes, I have informed IG Brokers.
ErFreh, Last Monday was the end of seven days of great rises in my p/folio. The MM's brought this about, not the CEO!
If only I had sold on Monday and knew today's close was the time to rush back in! Hindsight is a wonderful thing but that is all it is. To err is human; that's what makes us human. Hang on to your dream, long term holders.
Whether you are old or young. it hurts to lose. Think yourself lucky if you are young, you have time on your side If you have not sold, you have not lost. It is quicker to the bottom but harder to climb back up.
Bought a few this morning at -17%; tried to transfer money into IG Brokers this afternoon at -20% but they were not allowing movement of money, in or out! Anyone else frustrated? So, I switched my ODX holding to UFO buying in at -18%.
Let's see what tomorrow brings. GLA
I am a novice investor who was sitting on +150% on 3rd September and in the red six days ago.
Being in my seventies, should I hold on for some gold teeth or take some profit to ameliorate
a forthcoming dental bill of >£20K?
Alternative advice so far, "Sod the teeth, that would buy a lot of soup!"
splatted and waferthintam, Thank you for your comments. I know I will be criticised for going off topic but I wish every success to whichever drug companies come up with covid19 solutions. Relying on goodwill and the cooperation of the majority will always be undermined by the spreading effect of the mindless minority . This Government is begging us to
'play up and play the game' but the short term solution requires enforcement.
You cannot police without Police! Recruit 20,000 more? Fat chance, you can't bull**** a Bull****ter, eh Boris?
I am in my 70's and in the 'at risk group.' My friend with dementia died this week in a care home. His wife has not been allowed to visit him since March. I pay my taxes; a fair chunk of my estate, when I die, will go to the Government. Religiously, i adhere to the constantly changing Covid19 rules. The whole fiasco is exacerbated by the selfish minority that ignore those rules because wearing a mask and social distancing is an afront to their human rights. Grow up and take some responsibility for once; it is a pandemic for God's sake. Nobody's fault unless you wish to blame some poor sod, on the other side of the World, forced to eat vermin or worse.
Thank those that work invest in the likes of Synairgen and all the chemical companies who strive tirelessly to save your sorry little arses because you do not give a flying **** for anybody but yourselves.
I feel there will be a positive out of all the negativity; fewer deaths from 'normal' flu because mask wearing will be more widespread in the coming winters.
Ignore previous post; I cannot sell 100k but I can sell 400,000k?
I cannot sell 100k but I can sell 100k?
How life is relative; I am happy if I can maintain my '04 Zafira carrying me, my wife and her electric wheelchair.
Lost £4k on Carillion and now I am happy to be in the driving seat again.
GLA for allowing me to hang on to your coattails!
Hi Pottersfield and Himace
I was going to add my thoughts when this struck me. Even as a taxpayer, I am very lucky to be on a triple lock to my government pension but the Chancellor has got to fill up his empty tank from somewhere. Taking my bus pass and a partial recovery is not going to do the trick so I hope he gives ISAs a miss! Didn't Gordon Brown hammer the pension funds?
Having suffered many times, my guess is you have missed the bus but there are always others to come. No doubt there will be profit taking today with resultant ups and downs. Try to judge that dip and catch that next bus. If I were you, purely as an exercise in self learning, I would sit back and monitor those fluctuations. If you do not commit, then you will have learned a valuable lesson without risk. There is always another share on another day; start small, lose small.
Apart from holding GGP, I have speculated a small amount on a few sovereigns. The quandary is where to keep them safe from fire, burglars, one's demise and the authorities. My kids knew where they were hidden prior to a house move. Not one reminded me and three had forgotten the location; the fourth had it written somewhere on a piece of paper! Being legal tender, there are no capital gains and I am sitting on a 50% rise. Since the start of Covid 19, each sovereign has risen about £60. Weigh up the perils first but you can always ask a firefighter to look for a black molten mass if your house burns down!
