Take a look at the 'PFC share trades' in the box above. On the right hand side you will see an 'A' or an 'O'. The A is an algo trade, the O is an ordinary trade like you or i might execute. As you will see the 'A' trades are usually for silly amounts but loads of them!

Woody, a very brief summary as it's quite a complex area. Using PFC as an example. So there are say 2% of shares on a short position. So that is @7m shares that CV or RB have loaned from institutions with a view to shorting. These companies use algorithmic trading to drip sell those shares onto the market according to sentiment. The algos will switch from sell to buy at a given time (so here @156) then start buying. The process just continues relentlessly on shares (like PFC) until overall sentiment turns so positive they can no longer fight the buying pressure. At stage they need to buy back the shares & give them back to the institution they loaned them from (sometimes causes what's known as a short squeeze) Hope this explains a bit for you.

That dip will have been to facilitate a further reduction by Rye Bay or Capeview. Should see a declared reduction tomorrow.

For me, SP wise there is a simple comparator & that is Wood Group. Slightly different i understand but similar in many ways. In the months prior to Covid their SPs were pretty much at the same levels. That was with SFO on PFC's back. SFO has now gone. Wood is now trading around 230. Why? IMO ADNOC suspension & probably others reticence to work with PFC. 2 weeks ago that stumbling block was removed (i.e SFO resolved & only small fine not a crippling one financially). Shorts still here but on the path out it would seem. Gazprom alliance. Gradually the headwinds are being removed from this share. The risk is diminishing & the potential rewards are looking more achievable. Let's see where this goes over the next few weeks!!

i hold 40k of these shares now. my initial target is £2.50. May slice @ that point but not before. Yes i've traded these a bit in the past as it was clearly a share which needed to be traded due to all the shorting presence etc. I see this share in a very different light now SFO has been resolved. Once the dust settles, the shorts disappear & stability returns this will become a share for investment rather than the speculative toy it has become over the last year especially. I think PFC has a great leadership team & Iskander seems to be a CEO who understands the market as well as the oil industry. The mood on these BBs changes so much within the space of days but i'm not really too bothered about the doomslayers on here. I've done enough research on this business to feel quite comfortable that PFC will eventually ascend back at least some way to it's former glory. GLA

osw, yes i was thinking this myself. These large buys really smell of part of a short closure strategy. The Gazprom stuff will pay longer term dividends but for now it hasn't had any impact due to the uncertainty re results/capital raise speculation. The ADNOC stuff will happen but let's not forget the SFO stuff was only concluded 2 weeks ago. The ADNOC suspension was a political decision probably more than a commercial one & as such it maybe some while yet before it is lifted. This share needs time. I really feel this is going to blow big sometime soon. I don't believe the result will be great but i don't think the market is expecting too much either. So long as they're not a complete disaster & the speculation of an equity raise is addressed, this will begin a long climb back upwards. With OP at a high level & so much underinvestment in CAPEX due to Covid this has really got multibag potential written over it!

it will drift to Cape View & Rye Bay's price level where they see buying momentum then you will see a huge bounce back up when they buy back all the shares panic sold for peanuts. Just watch this happen!

PFCv, a moan is fine & i'm none too pleased about the drop either but i'm too long in the tooth in this shares game for it to overly concern me. I know the game being played here & i know that barring the mother of all disasters this is due a serious rerate. If you don't achieve your £3 target by early next year i'd be extremely surprised!

Peeps should understand that the drops are also a sign of the shorts closing out. They don't want to close their shorts when everything is looking blue skied & rosie posie. Cape View have been hammering the PFC SP for years now. Them reducing more can only be a good sign!

PFCv, Sadly & all too often your sentiment is exactly what the short selling locusts feed upon. desparation, fear & panic. Keep the faith with this one & it will come good. Nothing has changed here from the day the fine was announced at £77m. Look back over a few months comment on this board. The fine level is incredibly low. They now have the partnership with Gazprom. The shorts have latched onto the uncertainty of the results & the possibility of a capital raise & are freely driving down the price. The markets hate uncertainty but once this obstacle is out of the way. Even if there is a capital raise & poor results, you will ultimately see these shorts closing out here & the SP rising steadily. You really need to have a mid to long term outlook here as i think this will turnaround a lot quicker than the SP is currently suggesting.

JG, it's just MMs controlling the price at the moment as no news. Probably lots of buyers holding back for results & those tempted to sell but mindful this could spike on any news. As i said before, just expect a range probably between 160-180 in the absence of any news. Boring & frustrating but i expect news here soon!

Sorry to disappoint Damers but i'm in here long now. Not going to trade these anymore. Just going to sit on them for the inevitable rise. Shorters playing on the lack of results here & i imagine i few impatient PIs selling out on the cheap. You only need to look at Boohoo or THG over the last week or so to see what games the shorts are playing. I expect similar pattern to play out here!

This needs the results announcement. If results reasonable & no capital raise required, should see an immediate spike back over 180. If they do a capital raise will see a dip. Can't see it myself & if it happened would probably just be a small II placing to cover cost of SFO fine etc. Highly unlikely IMO though!

160-180 range. No news so will drift. Shorts having fun while it lasts. Poor market today. Frustrating to watch but nothing unexpected here!
