I have explained this ad nauseum, but you must have missed my posts. Supermarkets are a zero sum game. I shop at ALL supermarkets, in order to make comparisons and protect my investment. At some point, I may have an additional punt on MRW, now a ex-Tesco team is in charge & DP has left the building. Lots of shorters post on this BB, perhaps you should reserve your childish jibes for them.

The reason is simple - Tesco have 2,772 local stores, a much higher ratio to big stores than MRW MRW is closing 23 M Local stores after reviewing its convenience stores business. Morrisons moved into the sector later than its rivals, Tesco and Sainsbury’s, It currently has 153 M Local stores. As well as closing stores, Morrisons has halted the opening of new M Locals. The company said it will review the “proposition and site selection criteria” of its convenience stores.

Tesco had 3,370 stores in the UK in 2014, MRW had 628. It was the takeover of Safeways in a previous Southern Expansion that produced a lot of unresolved headaches. Taking their eye of the ball, 'Oop North' allowing the LADS to gain traction & destroy MRW dominance in their own Heartland. The No.1 priority should be trying to restore that dominance in THE NORTH.

You may know that a lot of the stores Tesco closed are in MRW heartland, where they faced multiple LADS stores on their doorsteps. I have said that MRW need to close more stores, too.

Cooler: Ridiculous idea - Tesco needs MRW like a hole in the head. Tesco have the best IT system in the world while MRW were making stock returns on pieces of paper, last I heard. No one has any idea of ALDI/Lidl Profits as opposed to Sales, 'cause they are 'mind your own business', PRIVATE companies. If Potts & co. can't fix MRW the most likely outcome is a takeover by Private Equity who would beak up the business & sell off the bits.

Ev. Standard 'Which of the Big Guns could fail?' 'All eyes should be on SBRY (will survive in a reduced form) & MRW' (looks shaky, what happens if demand falls & it has a load of meat to shift?). This is consistent with Short interest ATM. Worth reading the whole article.
