So, looking at Italy, a western country with some free press, and a modern health care system, is now locking down and you believe that China is open for business because msm says so. Wow. Glad I am not over 60 with any underlying health issues, because those numbers look even worse when you break it down into demographics and pre existing health conditions.

If this is just flu why has every government reacted like it has. Either there is a wider issue or it is a conspiracy. Please do let me know when ships, towns, villages or regions were quarantined by military personnel for flu or like. Not even Ebola, SARS or MERS warranted such attention. Corona is here, a significant number are likely to become infected (if following the mathematical models). Varying levels of ill health. How that rolls out we dont know. No real data comes out of China or Iran and the rest of the world is about 10-12 weeks behind, possibly more. I certianly wouldnt want to be in a care home that is for sure (see Italy). As a species we know how flu works and what it does. We have no idea on this one and that is, in my view, where the hysteria is coming from. Does it stay dormant, do we have it for life, what levels of lung damage are occurring, what other ill effects will it leave and for how long? These are unknowns and people are whipping it up, and with some validity. I do believe it is being used to hide poor economic data (definitely China) and unwind 2008 a little more. For one it is not behaving like a 'normal' virus. After all is said and done, eyes on the bargains when all is said and done.

So let's assume you are correct and 80% of China is back up and running. It isn't, and if it was it wont make any difference to you or I, or the markets, in the short term. Do you think China is now open for business? Or even close to that point? China has spent the last 3 months locking down its nation. Something tells me that it will be in no hurry to open its doors to the rest of the world. The rest of the world being the place where the virus is spreading at a pace. I can just see the CCP wanting the virus back in. The road is two way Troajan, and the Chin ain't opening up anything until this settles. China is locked down whether you look out or look in, just turn the telescope around.

Troajan. I have no idea about Zerohedge, conspiracy theories or alike so cannot pass comment. I will say that the likes of Carnival, IAG and other airlines could be real bargains...but they may drop further. I will wait. Even gold has dropped. Cash is king, and run for the hills.

Troajan. I am sorry to say that China is not under control. Factories of all sizes remain shut and people are still getting ill. Business are facing bankruptcy in China. Why have the media moved away from China? Distraction. Smoke and mirrors. This is a clusterfxck like we haven't seen since the Great Depression and the markets are using it to their advantage. I think they are using it to unwind the mess of 2008. That dead cat bounce happened and was gone by Weds.

Safety. In many cases children are the herd. They are the carriers. Very rare for children to get flu, but by golly can they spread it like the plague hence the vaccination programme. The programme does naff all for children but reduces herd effect....in theory.

Alastair Darling even wrote about the swinging and deep cuts labour would have to make to comply with EU regulations. Tories/lib dems just pushed it through as told to do so by the EU. Labour created this mess. No one has dealt with it. Of course I could mention PFI and the academisation of schools....all courtesy of labour. Tuition fees, now who pushed them on hard? K3. Yes. We need a few weeks yet to see real numbers as the deaths being recorded are the early door ones, when infection rates were low. Since then we have had exponential growth in the spread. Will deaths catch up? That is where the truth lies. Let's hope it is less than 2%.

Dreamy. I agree. I am going to put it out there that there could be a bit of a bounce next week and then a full on rout in the weeks after that. K3. Conspiracy theory or not...your thoughts are very interesting. It is very odd the whole Iran and China hotspot. When did the infections really break out in Iran? Certainly before news was public. Dreamy, I get your point but as K3 points out the upper power house (military) do not tend to go around in groups looking at oil drilling and refinery. And as you observed the two communities do not mix. Something is off about this, the virus is not behaving like a typical virus. Manmade? High impact but not kill all effect, just debilitate and weaken your enemy. Perfect. Even better if it can spread like a ghost for up to 42 days. We shall never know, the cover up and lies just fuel the conspiracy theories. Warmer weather please, it may help.
