Reddington and Dreamy. Well said. So who are these teachers using food banks? Why are they using food banks? Never heard of this. One off single mum who retrained later in life? Circumstances? Context? Could one consider a paid lunch time duty which includes a free lunch? What I do know, is London is too expensive for teachers (most front line jobs actually). They commute in, or tend to cut their teeth and move out of the area. London Weighting has a lack of weight. Back in the day, post grad and first job, I drove a little beat up Astra. I had no mobile phone (didnt exist for the masses) and I cooked. I rarely went out for food. Beer, yes, food not so much. I got by with cheap clothing but professional. Could never compromise on shoes, even now I love a pair of Cheaneys or Greens. No foreign holidays every time I had a holiday. After a couple years, things change. Pay increases, promotions etc. There is a culture amongst many in their 20's that they should have it all now and can have it all now, and it should be on a plate. Those that buy a house and set themselves up in their 20's do so by making sacrifices and not having a £70 a month phone contract or a £250 a month PCP deal or use Just Eat 3 times a week...even to have a tub of ice cream delivered! Yes, this I have seen. I guess it is how most of us did it, and many still do. Graft and pain. I once read an interesting piece about women and working and how that lead to sky high house prices. Interesting theory. For another day. I am not going to accept that children are going hungry. If parents are financially in the poo poo then parents apply for FSM (free school meals). It is a quick and easy process. Said child will also attract PP (pupil premium) so extra funding for said school child. This is heavily monitored by Ofsted so all the pennies are accounted for and linked to the PP children. Some schools use for tutoring (intervention), trips, activities, shoes, school uniform, breakfast clubs etc. However, the welfare state is now considered by many as 'pay day'. It is a lifestyle that affords many holidays, cigarettes, alcohol, a car (despite free bus pass), and lots of Jeremy Kyle. Although Jeremy has now been removed from our screens, so I expect to see some societal changes. The term now used is 'worklessness'. It is prevalent in white British families. Increasingly the most disadvantaged in society and certainly the most affected my mass uncontrolled immigration. Tick tock. Tick tock.
