I have been out of this one for a couple weeks (SL out after being overcautious) Was worried about being out really as this share is still undervalued, as the reasons for last years fall are largely gone and should be re-rated. However there are these silly little niggles that give investors to think twice. The underlying problem with these profits are that the theory is that newly refurbished stores are supposed to do at least 10% more business and now that a lot of the bigger stores have this in place they ought to have done better, especially if you compare it with John Lewis's figures. The one consistent problem that has not changed (and I think it links into DSGI's underperformance on British soil) is the poor buyers. In my area of sales Laptops have had no outstanding deals this Christmas, and Printers have been nowhere near where they should have been. I have been shopping for Fridge / freezer's and washing machines as a consumer and Curry's are outperformed by Comet completely. Get new buyers in urgently. The prospects for good SP movement (depending on economy) is there.

Was surprised at the lack of reaction from the RNS this morning, guess it must be this part! "Earnings estimated to be below Director's expectations, but not significantly so, due to delays of expected Endoscopy sales into the next period and higher than anticipated field costs" However it bodes very well for the future profitability of this company - HOLDing for me in 2010

Just had a look who is posting there now, and my pit of lying snakes does not apply to all, just some of the people posting in the timeframe I quoted.

This is from the ADVFN BB on AAAM (I hold those shares) and is posted by Miamisteve and although gives a view on the effect on AAAM, I suspect it will be of interest to a WAD holder: "The company had been looking to IPO stellar for sometime but had been delayed by the collapse in diamond prices and equity markets. They are merging with WAD which is currently suspended. AAAM own 59.6% of Stellar Diamonds, who will own 75% of the enlarged WAD. There will also be an equity raise to accompany the relisting of Stellar which will fund the purchase of Petra diamonds 51% interest in Kono. Critically this will give a tangible value to Stellar diamonds which I believe has not been credited with any value at the present time to the group. Going back to the evolution note, based solely on what MANO put into Stellar and extrapolated for their 59.6% stake then our Stellar stake should trade at teh equivalent of around 18p a share. One would presume that the company would expect it to trade at a premium to this at some point, otherwise why make the investment. I foresee the relisting of WAD adding 10p-15p to the sp overnight, though have some doubts as to whether they will be able to tie it all up during Q1."

The foolowing is 1 part of an RNS released 13-1-2010 by Petra: Below is part of Petra's RNS talking of offloading their JV with Stellar. Kono - Sierra Leone The Kono project in Sierra Leone is a fissure diamond mining project at an advanced stage of exploration. The project was placed on care and maintenance in May 2009 due to adverse market conditions. Petra, and its joint venture partner Stellar Diamonds Limited ("Stellar Diamonds"), had commenced trial mining at two shafts during 2007 and had achieved positive results both in terms of average value per carat and continuity of grade. Furthermore, the project is in a highly prospective area for exploration with 17 kilometres of fissure strike identified to date. The Kono project has been part of Petra's portfolio since the Company merged with Crown Diamonds NL in 2005. Since this time, Petra has acquired three major diamond kimberlite pipe mines (with a fourth, Kimberley Underground, soon to complete) and the Company's strategy has moved from an exploration to a production focus. As such, the Kono project is no longer considered to be core to Petra's portfolio and the Company is in active discussions to sell its share to Stellar Diamonds. Its past! Used to be ITI which did not perform particularly and was subject to a couple bad ramps. Childsplay should note that the last attempted ramp was by a certain "Mr Shadenfraude" who was banned for multiple ID's. David Lenigas decided to turn this company from underperforming Technology to Gas and Oil speculation. A distinct deviation from its original for. The trouble is I certainly do not trust Mr Lenigas, but I have to acknowledge that he has managed some good surprises so far as Solo. In short I think the market does not trust Solo, and until it hits with firm good news I suspect that it may not move North, but IF it does it may move North fast. Just my personal opinion!

I understand management’s strategy with the PAP#1-ST#3 well. The addition of a pump will increase the available pressure drawdown and create a greater pressure sink to hopefully encourage a higher rate of influx of fluids across the connection to the main reservoir – assuming the Tracs interpretation is correct. Fraccing multiple intervals should also increase well deliverability by creating a more effective interface with the reservoir. Bear in mind that there may be a risk of fracturing down into the aquifer and producing water which won't help the situtation. Hopefully they will be able to design the job to contain the fractures within the oil interval. I am concerned that a substantial drawdown should have been achievable in the current and previous wells. The initial bottom hole reservoir pressure was in excess of 5000psi. A relatively low flowing bottom hole pressure should have been achievable in all wells given the light oil and high GOR. Hence pressure drawdown across the reservoir (Pr – FBHP) should have been high without a pump, if the tubing was sized correctly*. Production rate is proportional to pressure drawdown (although not linearly once pressure falls below the bubble point and gas breaks out in the reservoir) so the circumstances were right for continuous production. * If the tubing was sized in anticipation of say 1500 – 2000 bbl/d but the well is capable of delivering much less then fluid velocity in the tubing string will be too low and the liquid content will not be lifted efficiently by the associated gas. The liquid and gas separate into slugs and eventually the well dies due to the head of liquid in the tubing. Replacing the tubing with a smaller ID should improve the situation but I could not tell whether this option was considered. Management seem to have been doing all the right things with regard to deals and creating the ability to move forward. However I remain concerned that they just don’t have a good hand in terms of GHS reservoir continuity. There may be an ace in the pack in the form of Shoal Point but will they get to play that hand if GHS continues to disappoint? Sorry I couldn’t be more optimistic but that’s how I see it. As usual as PIs we don’t have all the information that we would like to and their well management company must have reason to believe they get a result. I will watch for future announcements with interest and will consider investing if it looks like the well will provide a prolonged income stream for them to facilitate future exploration. "Hi mikelee99 A few days ago you asked me on the GKP BB for a view on ENEG. I agreed to let you know and here are my thoughts as a result of reviewing the prospectus, the recent annual report, several RNSs and the many good posts on this BB from Dshox, Ticker2000 et al. Firstly though I mentioned that I knew the chairman. That comment was made upon reading the prospectus. However I note that he left the company in March09 when the company had to reduce its staffing levels. Hence I feel more comfortable about commenting on the company. I note, based on the last annual report that Clive had apparently not purchased any shares during his tenure with the company. That may be an indication of how he felt about the risks associated with its assets. I will restrict my comments to the GHS field as the other prospects and leads are relatively immature and currently high risk, low Ps opportunities. The history of GHS field indicates it has been problematic from discovery. Hunt as operator could not achieve continuous production at reasonable rates. Tracs identified the main risks as being reservoir quality and lateral continuity. This is well illustrated (in Table 2.1 of their report in the prospectus) by the variation in net pay and net:gross between the original PAP-1 (N:G =98%) and sidetrack ST-1 (N:G = 7%). Also porosities are low about 6% and 9% in the respective oil legs of PAP-1 and ST1 which leads to concerns whether the matrix has sufficient permeability to feed the fractures and maintain flow rates. (I was somewhat surprised to see a porosity cut off of 1% for net pay in an oil reservoir but looking at the logs I don’t think this has much impact on the net pay estimate.) Page 61 of the prospectus (63 of the pdf) discusses the presence of reservoir discontinuities near the wells evidenced by the pressure behaviour. The modelling work indicates ST2 is only well connected to a max of about 0.5MM bbl OIP. It is tough to model a compartmentalised, low matrix porosity, fractured dolomitized limestone reservoir with limited connectivity to potentially larger areas with any degree of confidence. IMO ENEG is fighting an uphill battle to develop it with one or two additional wells, should the ST-3 well frac treatment be successful. They will have to achieve a far higher level of internal visibility from 3-D seismic to be able to place wells in the sweet spots. The Tracs report p71 (p73 pdf) indicated the need for 3-D seismic before drilling the horizontal sidetrack ST-3 by assigning only a 50% Ps to drilling it using the existing 2-D. Costs were estimated at $3.3-4.5MM +mob costs for onshore/offshore survey. I’m afraid I ran out of time, and maybe enthusiasm, to dig through all the material. I am assuming 3-D seismic was not run prior to drilling the ST-3 sidetrack due to cost issues. (Bad news if it was as it appears not to have optimised the well location.) Laptop sales in PCW stores have been excellant this Christmas with many buys coming along to beat VAT increase I guess, and the sales continues well on 2/3rd Jan. As I mentioned John Lewis won the Printer wars but PCW eclipsed Comet (again). Should make for good results I think. As for the way staff are treated, I actually want to see them whipping the sales staff as it no longer affects me except through SP :-)

For VGAS. All buys at 215, price has to move soon. This moring consequetive small buys, this afternoon 23 small / medium buys.

Have you noticed the type of buys today? A lot of small buys generated in a small amout of time has happened twice before, and seem a bit odd. Any thoughts?

Hehehe, no ... good post though Their attitude of "work when we tell you" at Christmas was my tipping point, so out I went (still on good terms, as I don't burn my bridges). I now work for a manufacturer with staff in Comet, PCW, J Lewis and now Staples. In comparison J Lewis have got their sales correct in comparison and upped the volume.

Operating profit down to about $50, but with $79 of bank debts, sale of Ships gone through recently at less than buy prices and now they are only left with 2 Ships. Hard to see upside on that level of business but diector buys indicate different.
