2018 NXP002 ONLY Trials
As already mentioned, by others, the 2018 trials were with multi-patient lung samples to evaluate the effect of NXP002 – multi donor lung samples were essential for those tests to properly evaluate any variability in efficacy and exclude a chance result. Results of NXP002 on its own were as follows:
· Data demonstrates NXP002 candidates strongly inhibit fibrosis ex-vivo, even in very severely fibrotic patient tissue, giving strong support for treating IPF and other fibrotic lung conditions
· In addition, NXP002 demonstrated specific action measured against key inflammatory targets
· NXP002 out-performed current standard of care treatment, Esbriet ® (pirfenidone)
NXP002 in combination with SOC drugs :
I believe the recent NXP002 pre-clinical trials in combination with SOC drugs did not necessarily need to be carried out in more than one lung sample, as it is looking at the RELATIVE performance of NXP002 compared to the two SOC drugs.
So to determine the relative degree of efficacy for the drugs separately, and in various combinations they should be applied to the same lung sample. Presumably the suite of tests were carried out several times on different areas of the patient-donor lung to check that the results were consistent and not a fluke One might then consider that (for pre-clinical stage data) the same relative efficacy would be expected with other lung samples.
Results as follows:
The preliminary data from this study shows that the combination of NXP002 with SOC provided strong evidence of additional effects compared to either SOC alone on both fibrotic and inflammatory markers. In addition, the results showed evidence of similar or better activity of lower doses of SOC in combination with NXP002, compared to higher doses of SOC alone, indicating a potential for a dose-sparing effect of the combination. These data supplement the previously reported study of NXP002 in the same preclinical model where positive effects were seen when NXP002 was dosed alone and now there is STRONG data in combination with SOC therapy.
